I am not going to name names, the FO should have connections in the league to come up with a candidate pool or they should be able to hire a consultant who can do that for them.
Gamble has been a part of the FOP team along with Marathe and Jed since 2005, minus the two years he was with the Eagles before getting fired. Gamble is the Tomsula of GM candidates.
How will it look if the 49ers fire their GM after giving him the stamp of approval in January?
I am not suggesting that anyone should be fired.
Who's to do say he doesn't change things? Why would they hire someone that's gonna keep doing the same thing as baalke? I don't think he keep the things the same at all.
I think Jed and Paraag think they have it all figured out which is why they haven't made any major changes. They though Tomsula was the right kind of change, they kept Baalke through the Harbagh to TTomsula dn the Tomsula to Kelly transitions...They don't want to change how the FO does things.
Why not bring in an outsider rather thana guy who has been one of York and Marathe's minions since 2005?
I'm sorry what does Paraag have to do with anything right now? Dude is in charge of a soccer team and has control of a bunch of nothing outside of working on contracts. Jed demoted his top dog...
I don't see what the problem is with gamble as GM, really don't...what do you have to go off of as far as him calling the shots and putting a team together? You have no idea what his vision is and I like the idea of the GM and HC being on the same page as far as knowing what they want.
Paraag Marathe is the highest ranking person in Football Operations. He was taken out of the team president role but his football operations role was not diminished at all.
From 49ers.com
PARAAG
MARATHE
Chief Strategy Officer & Exec. VP Of Football Ops
He is the EVP of Football Operations, the executive in charge of football strategy and he runs the analytics department that provides analytics on potential FAs and draft picks.

That article came out while Marathe was still President of the team and before he was put atop football operations.
Woo still doesn't realize that "football operations" is not managing the players on the team. Look up the role with every other team in the NFL. This is reserved for the FINANCIAL/BUSINESS portion of the franchise's operations. Player Personnel has to do with the actually roster and team. Football Operations is a catch-all term for all the business that goes on outside the players which is significant. You can't just run a stadium and manage hundreds of millions in budget with just a scant staff and Jed York.
Like Broncos VP of Football Operations John Elway or 2008 Miami VP of Football Ops Bill Parcells?
It is a footbal role.
There are only two people listed under the Football Operations executive team, one is Paraag Marathe and the other is Trent Baalke.
It is a football role. Marathe has always had a football role. For a time Marathe also had a role in the business when he was the President of the 49ers but he gave up those duties when he left that role.

EVERY football organization isn't structured the same way.
If you go just ONE layer deep on that link it tells you what each person does. This is like saying a job title at one company has the same responsibilities and duties at another.
WHAT does Paraag DO?
While serving as team President for two years (2014-15) and Chief Operating Officer for four years (2010-13), Marathe helped bring to life the vision of an unparalleled fan experience at Levi's Stadium. The vision was to be a physical representation of all that is special about the Bay Area, in particular its innovative technology, sustainability, and culture. Levi's Stadium features several elements that accomplish those goals, including the 49ers Museum presented by Sony, Michael Mina's world-class restaurants - Bourbon Steak and Bourbon Pub, television and radio production studios, the flagship 49ers Team Store, a 27,000 square foot green roof and the Levi's Stadium mobile app that allows fans to personalize their visit to the venue. Marathe played a critical role on the small team that founded and incubated VenueNext, a company whose vision is to use technology to set a new standard for the live event experience.
NOTHING here about pro-player eval and personnel other than contract negotiation. This is a business title. Now Guido has a slightly different role:
In that link Baalke DOES NOT, and I repeat, DOES NOT report to Marathe. Stop spreading this myth.
And the second article in this thread? Posted on December 4, 2015 by Tim Kawakami - which I discount in its entirety for accuracy.
Marathe does not report to Baalke either. He reports directly to Jed and has a top title in football operations.
that job description is strictly related to his role as Team President on the business side. His current role is mostly football related.
Like Parcells and elway, Marathe's role in football operations is a football role. He has been part of the coaching searches, draft and FA player recommendations, on field coaching strategy and general roster strategy.
