In 2012, Gamble oversaw both the college and pro personnel efforts of the 49ers while working closely with general manager Trent Baalke.
Gamble helped with the 2012 draft for the Niners.
Let that sink in.
All we're going to get is busts.

That may be true but remember that Gamble only scouts and presents the data to Baalke. Trent makes the final call. Doesn't mean Gamble agrees with everry selection each time in each round.

I hope that Gamble will retained because he'll help with the continuity and draft prep. However, I do NOT like the idea of a Gamble/Kelly pairing ala the Eagles.
I'm in the camp that hopes for a complete tear down and starting over with the front office structure.

Two things I would add to this discussion: (1) Tom Gamble has been involved in the same drafts as Baalke; and, (2) sometimes change for the sake of change isn't the best option. I feel like Baalke and Gamble are pretty good talent evaluators with pluses and minuses. My thought is that Chip Kelly can be Baalke's lense into unearthing offensive talent.
Agreed. If I'm the owner, I look at their first year as a collective group. Great draft. Not so much in FA. Instead of wiping everyone out and starting all over, I'm bringing in oversight and an added skill set to the mix to bring perfect balance. It doesn't matter what GM's are out there, they all have strengths and weaknesses and more often than not, it's on one side of the ball over another. Having an offensive coach like Jackson, Gase, Shanahan and Kelly can be that perfect balanced to a FO team that has a propensity for seeing defensive talent better. From there, the scouting staff start changing their criteria, Gamble starts working with them differently, the added GM oversees them, the President oversees all, etc. Call me the 5%er who believe we can build on this.

What is the point of Gamble then? He has no real ssay, and Jed wanted someone from outside the organization. Is Gamble just collecting a check? or is his internal title "President of Organizational leaks?"
