Changing their stance meaning rescinding the tag? What possible benefit would they get by doing that? They've already budgeted to pay him. And by week 10 they'd only be paying him 40% of his franchise tag. As for a trade: they'd have even worse leverage than they have now. Maybe they get a 6th round pick... maybe??

This
If he agrees to a very good and realistic amount of money with our team, then I'll send a 2019 (2nd rounder) and a swap 1st depending on the much worse record.
I figured out if we can cut for Wards and AA and Malcom smith and MacKinnon then Give to Bell for 17 millions for one year?! Just do it. We will draft the rb next summer. What do you think?!

I don't think there is a chance in hell Bell gets traded unless its to a team that is willing to give him a long term deal. That would disqualify us since we gave McKinnon a big deal.

Why would Bell play for any other team unless a long term deal is in place? If he wanted to play under the tag he'd be with the Steelers right now.

Disagree with this entire post. First of all, Mckinnons contract was the roughest this year. He can be cut easily.

Secondly, the Steelers are the team that Bell feels disrespected by...not the other 31 teams. You never know if a player would play under different circumstances for a team he didnt feel disrespected by. Bell is mad at the Steelers. Cant just assume he wouldnt be more flexible with other teams.
And the draft picks it will cost us?

The thing is.....nobody can sign him to a long term deal until the offseason. Its unlikely that any team would franchise tag him a 3rd time either. Realistically you could transition tag him but if you fail to match the offer, you don't even get a comp pick.

His value decreases on a daily basis. If Pittsburgh feels that they will be in the running for a SB, may as well hang on to him, even if he doesn't show up until Week 10. Having a fresh Bell for the latter part of the season and the playoffs will probably mean a lot more than the relatively trivial draft compensation that they would receive.
Bell cant get a multi year deal at this point of the league year, its past the deadline to do so. So whoever trades for him, they are essentially stuck with a 1 year rental with no guarantee that he will re-sign

Think about the message it sends to the locker room if the 49ers acquired Bell with McKinnon on the roster. Doesn't matter what I think, but in today's league you don't pay runners big money unless it's a transcendent talent like AD, Gurley, Elliott, Johnson.

To answer, No. The 49ers are not Le'Veon Bell from winning competing for a Super Bowl.

Just a thought for a moment..... What if the Niners are cruising along at 7 -1 at the midway point of the season and the Steelers are getting good production out of Conner and Laveon becomes available. At this point the Niners are playing great defense and are efficient if not spectacular on offense. Should the Niners make a trade for say a 4th round pick to the Steelers and acquire bell and pay the 6.8 million for the rest of the season to try and make a deep playoff run?

If SF is cruising with a 7-1 record then why trade for a RB? something must be going right lol

Also if Bell's really holding out as to not get hurt...his ass his still out the first 10 games. Pitt has to resend the tag and they've already said they won't. They have him budgeted out for the yr under the tag. They have no reason to do anything because they get all that cash back for every game he holds out. Also when he leaves and get's a big deal they're looking at a comp 3rd.

It's a no win IMO.
