I was disappointed we didn't get Mack, but not trading for Bell I understand. We're already paying McKinnon and Bell doesn't want to play until he has a contract. So essentially he'd be a six-game rental...

I agree with this. No way we have so much invested in the RB position.

Why not. Jet isn't playing. Bell will start ASAP and get signed long term.

Cut Jet after the season. It's a business.

Bell will not play ASAP. Not sure why this is difficult to understand.

He's holding out for a new contract. Teams cannot give him a new contract. It's against the rules.
before today, i would've said lets try and trade for him. now it's just a waste. this season is over anyways

The Hawks and Steelers should just swap disgruntled players

To be fair to Breida. He was a potential elite back before his final year in college. Everyone had him up there with Fournette, Cook, C-Mac. His 2014 and 2015 play was insane. Then 2016 happened.

Breida is not a natural pass receiver. That was McKinnon's strength.

Well in a way I'm kinda glad that with Jimmy going down we don't have to worry about getting Bell

Now that Breida is leading the league (somewhat) in rushing, I doubt Lynch and Shanahan trade for any running back. What they SHOULD be doing is trying to trade for defensive players. Sherman, injured, Ward sucks, Colbert was either injured or benched and Tartt injured. With Jimmy G. injured they need to find a way to get the fans excited again, instead of us looking forward towards the 2019 draft.
Yea, by the time we get to a playoff/superbowl window, Bell will be pushing 30 after years of hard usage.
I don't think it would be a wise move. We cannot offer him a contract at this point in the stage. Unless they had a gentleman's handshake agreement that he would sign with us after the year.

Is it worth the investment though? He is a stud. We need so much more. I'm not sure spending $12 mil a yr on a RB is wise. Especially after spending a good chunk on Jet & Jimmy who are out this year.

If I'm Bell I'm not sure I'd want to come to the Niners either. Lol I don't think he's got much of a say in it right now.

Does anyone know if he can refuse a trade to a team?

He can refuse to play which is just as good. Believe he has to sign his tender before they can move him.

I like this. I would love to see us do some addition by subtraction on the defensive side of the ball. I think for Colbert it's both. He's been brutal in coverage and tackling (hell everyone can't tackle).
Need to find a way to dump Ward. He looked disinterested out there at times, fk we need an edge rusher bad. Someone to go with Buck. ( from what I heard they tried hard to get Mack. Can't fault them as it was the Raiders choice. They did not view our 1st rd pick value vs Chicago's.)

Plus it would take Bell some time to adjust to a new offense.

Agreed braddah. Fowler would definitely have me excited again.
Great teams have great players. We need to acquire as many as possible

Bell is a massive upgrade over McKinnon as a running back and the 49ers can afford him, but will the front office go all-in on the 2018 season now that Garoppolo is lost to a season-ending injury? There are two ways to look at this: 1. The 49ers would want Bell only as a one-year rental for the 2018 season and would roll with McKinnon once healthy in 2019. 2. The 49ers would cut McKinnon, whose salary is only $4.3 next season, and go with Bell long-term. If general manager John Lynch wants Bell as his long-term bell cow, option No. 2 makes sense. The 49ers can put together a trade package the Steelers would want, and Pittsburgh also gets to send Bell out of the AFC. - Bleacher Report.
