The no chance in hell of happening Leveon Bell dream thread

With this team Bell would be more effective as a receiver than a runner. In Pittsburgh he has guys like DeCastro and Pouncey paving the way for his runs. In fact, the Steelers entire OL is ranked top 30 or better at their position. With the 49ers, only Staley is top 30. Why would he want to come here when he can run behind those beasts in Pittsburgh?

Fix the OL and they will come!

Because our offense has some excitement to it now with KS and JG. If Ben retires, why would he want to go back to Pittsburgh? He needs a QB because if it wasn't for his receiving production he'd be just another top-10 RB.
Good point.

He also needs those maulers to open holes for him. Right now, the 49ers are near the top of the league in RBs being contacted first behind the LOS. JG isn't going to fix that by himself.

I dont understand why fans get spun up about RBs like Bell or Barkley until this oline gets upgraded. As amazing as those two are, its going to make it tough when theyre getting hit at or behind the LOS all the time.

Id rather see them sink big $$$ into the oline, and draft a player like Ronald Jones III.

Plus, they have to protect Jimmy G.

It takes 2 to tango. The Browns and Raiders just threw all their money into their Olines. They don't have the runners though. We saw how Dallas faired without Elliot. The Oline is important, but scheme and RBs that fit the scheme are vital too.

Totally agree. This years draft has some RB depth. Take a RB in the 2nd to 4rd and let Williams, Brieda and the rook battle it out.

I have confidence KSs scheme and RB coach.

Couldn't you sign Bell then draft the guard you want? I'm not seeing how a fa running back prevents you from drafting o lineman.

Tbh though I'd only want him if we drafted Nelson. Bell is a power back so you want the mauling line for him.

Well, Bell's never coming to the Niners. But for the sake of discussion, it seems like it boils down to where they want to invest their $$$.

The Niners need OG, C, DE, WR,CB, LB, RB.

#1 CB, DE, and #1 WR seem to be the big money positions, so IF Lynch was able to hit on those in the draft, it would free up money for premier RBs like Bell.

Personally, Id rather target a RB in the draft to free up $$$ for other positions.

And i keep thinking about that too. If we wanna save money at RB to pay for other positions then by means all fine with me.

KS and Turner will probably target a mid round guy they really like. I'm thinking rounds 3-6, but if a top prospect falls to us at the end of the 2nd, who knows.

Im intrigued with Michel in the 3rd/4th. Mike Shan took Terrell Davis was a 6th out of UGA

I don't think either of the UGA boys get past the 3rd. I wouldn't be surprised if Michel was snatched up early on day 3.

For sure. I think he goes in the 3rd/early 4th.

Been thinking about this and there's a good chance Ben retires and Bell wants to go somewhere else. Now, I think the Steelers would tag him out of necessity, but you never know.

Bringing in Bell would transform the offense. It's not the most efficient use of money, but acquiring a pass catching RB is priority #1 on offense.

We currently have at least 3 pass catching backs playing on Sundays, why is a pass catching back such a priority?
Way down the list in my opinion.
CB,LEO,OG,C are all positions that we have greater needs at over a pass catching back.

Top priority on offense. Yes, Hyde can catch, but he can't do anything with it.

Since when can Hyde catch? He has more dropped balls than puberty.

Lets also clarify what a catch is with him as it's clear Hyde is strictly limited to dump off passes.

He has 6 drops this season. FWIW Melvin Gordon and Jordan Howard have 5 drops each while Leveon Bell, Devonta Freeman and Adrian Peterson have 4 drops each. Brieda is also credited with 4 drops on the year.

How many of those guys are putting up 2k scrimmage yards?

Leveon Bell could be our Marshall Faulk in the offense. You could get lucky and draft a gem, but if he's available, I'd love for him to team up with Garrapolo to form a nice young tandem that can take over the game on the ground and through the air.
I'm sure most have seen this, but Steelers are pretty tight on cash and may need a QB if the Burger retires.

The two sides couldn't come to terms on a long-term contract last offseason so Bell is playing 2017 on the franchise tag. Has Bell done enough this season to convince the Steelers to budge on a huge new deal, will they slap him with the franchise tag again or is Bell destined to play somewhere else in 2018?
The cleanest solution is the franchise tag one more time. It would be expensive, something in the neighborhood of $15 million for the season. But it's easy and Bell would only have the recourse of a holdout if it happens but you know he'd just do his extended summer vacation again and show up just before the start of the season.

That's an awfully hefty price tag for a running back on a cash-strapped team. Pittsburgh is currently projected to have some $2.7 million in cap space for next season, according to Overthecap.com – which means retaining Bell would take some financial gymnastics and cutting ties elsewhere.
I hope we stay far away from him. he's always been nothing but trouble. He's never shown up for the off season program, he's always a hold out. he's expensive. There is no need to reach for him because of his name and over pay. we have way to many other needs to spend money on.
