What do you guys think of potentially making a run at Gabriel. Had his biggest success with Shanahan and probably could have been a 1,000 yarder season had he started with the same momentum that he picked up mid season.
He is a RFA so we can definitely make a run at him. Falcons already have Sanu and Jones locked up to big contracts so giving another big contract to a WR wouldnt be smart, cap-wise, for the Falcons.
I forget how the RFA works exactly. Are they able to place tenders on Gabriel or just be first in line to make him an offer that we will be able to outbid them on?

They'll tender him at the highest level meaning we will have to give up significant draft compensation to get him. It depends on what level they tender him. But the amount the Falcons have to pay for that high tender is so low that they'd be stupid not to do it.
Frankly, he's just not worth giving up a 2nd or 3rd round pick for.

For all intents and purposes -- Gabriel is a 2018 FA consideration. Unless the Falcons are dumb, there will be no viable way to secure his services in 2017.

I hope so. I love me some Gabriel. His two best seasons are with Shanahan and he was mediocre without him.

well isnt it either a 2nd or 7th round tender? So they would have to put a 2nd round tender, which is only a lil over $2M. So yeah, i agree...theyd be stupid not to 2nd round tender him. Our seconder is too valuable. I guess we will just wait til 2018.

yeah shanahan really knows how to utilize him. If given the choice, Gabriel probably wants to follow Shanahan wherever he goes.

Would rather just draft a receiver like Ryan Switzer on a 4 year cheap deal.

That said, if I'm Gabriel and I just had a career year and a Super Bowl run... BUT my superstar OC just left... I may be inclined to take a long term deal from the Falcons. There's a lot of risk for Gabriel to only play on a one-year, very cheap, deal.

Very true. Can flop with a couple years as well.

Yes but at the same time he had a bad year last year without that superstar OC (his rookie year Shanahan was with the Browns). He was released and decided to sign to the team Shanahan was a part of.
There's a good chance he wants to stay with the guy that gives him the best chance to be successful.

I think he'll end up getting a 2nd or 3rd round tender.

Not sure about giving up draft picks for him... But that was a hell of a move he just put on that DB....
