$17.5M for one year of Ansah is quite a bit...

Ugh just go get a CB and a interior guy and let's roll in the draft.
Exactly...get a couple older ZBS G's like Sitton and Levitre and a CB and call it a day.

It's just as hard to get a franchise Edge rusher in FA as it is to get a franchise qb FA.
Those are the two most important positions

I'm iffy on all the edge prospects after Chubb that'll be available at the 9-10 range. I wasn't a crazy over the idea of splurging on Ansah bc of his injuries but I acknowledged it's probably be the best move to address the spot with a proven stud and not be forced to reach with our first pick. Now that's probably what we have to do and I'm not loving it bc even then I'm not sure there's any fix that significantly improves edge next year now. Winning those meaningless games against the Rams, esp the last one and missing out on Garrett hurts.

Honestly I can see maybe one of those OGs....maybe. I think CB will be the big ticket FA.
SF can always roll over their cash and focus on extending some of their own like Buck in 2019 (Brown/Goodwin whenever) and see what's available in 2019.

Build up your secondary and LB units. We just have to come to grips that just maybe finding a good edge rusher will have to wait for at least another offseason or an in season trade. Do not want the team panicking and taking a pass rusher early in the draft just to say we got to have one. Would be a terrible waste of a pick. After Chubb, it's kind of doubtful we find someone better then we already have. It's just not the year for pass rushing options in free agency or the draft.Originally posted by NinerGM:Originally posted by Gemini10:Originally posted by NinerGM:Not sure why people are shocked. Agreed that the prospects now don't seem encouraging in the draft but this is where IMHO coaches and scouts really make their $; we need to look beyond the draftniks reports and find guys that can have an impact but might need some development/playing time (eg Colbert, Taylor). No there's not guaranteed, all-consensus fix after Chubb, but that also doesn't mean we can't draft well for the position.
Maybe a combo approach sign and draft. Regardless of what we do at CB in FA we should still draft defense even if we don't take a guy with our 1st or 2nd rounder.

Actually more upset about the kilgore signing then not getting Ansah. Ansah is a pretty big risk with the contract he would demand. The search for LEO continues.
