OL Jonathan Cooper

One of the (many) nice things about Lynchahan's openness is that they're very overt in making it clear that they like to double at need positions in both FA and the draft.

A one year deal for Cooper is basically protection against the draft not falling their way on the lineman they're interested in. Maybe the draft doesn't fall their way on OG and he beats out Tomlinson or Magnuson, or maybe the draft does fall their way and he's fighting it out with Tomlinson and Magnuson to not be cut.
Exactly that.

You don't want to spend a mid-round draft pick on a guy just for depth. Bringing in depth now saves a pick but it certainly does NOT mean they would pass on either Nelson or Wynn if they are available.
This move has a chance to resemble last year signing of Goodwin. I can see Cooper excelling in this scheme and getting extended. He was born to play in a heavy OZ scheme and he proved that during his time with Dallas.

This is also why I'm not big on drafting Nelson. You are asking for trouble when you draft a guy and ignore if he's a natural fit for your scheme. Everyone thinks that if a guy is talented enough that nothing else matters, but it does and Cooper is proof of that.

I'd bet on it

That would stink for him. They asked him to transform his body for the scheme then cut him ?

That would make sense. Fallback just like Kilgore.

Did you see him stand up Buckner and push him back during pass protection?

If that was something he does consistently, 4 teams wouldn't have basically dumped him by this point.

I saw plenty of him with the Cards and saw a guy who despite his terrific athleticism let himself get pushed around way too much in pass protection.

He's decent depth and might push Tomlinson off the roster, that is about it though.

This guy gets it :)

I see no negatives to this signing. At worse, he's a better backup than Beadles.

He could also look real good between Richburg and Staley or Brown. He was better than any of our interior OL last season.

You.....are undoubtedly correct, sir!!

Probably trying to trade him now.

I don't know if that's it. It's great to have an opinion, but why do you always try to pass it off as facts? You don't know how things will turn out.

I do not understand this signing at all. It makes perfect sense.

Lol. Legit recap of NT.

Exactly. Who cares. Not every move is about finding a guy that is definitely on the roster and making an impact. You need depth for camp and preseason. If he earns a role great but he's really just depth.

Good point on Beadles. He's even better at guard than Kilgore. I see zero wrong with this signing, actually like it. Him, Laken, Garnett and whoever we draft battles for the starting jobs

Yep. I'm not giving up on Garnett either. I think he will be the favorite at RT going into camp. Tomlinson also really wasn't that bad that last year either.

Three first-round guards, but still have gaping holes at guard.

Lol

What?

Laken Tomlinson
Joshua Garnett
Jonathan Cooper

1-2-3

I'm still confused could you elaborate?

We couldn't get a 7th and a ham sandwich for him at this point. He will be on the team this year and if he can't start at G with this roster then he's gone next year.
