I'm hoping Cooper pushes Beadles off the roster. Getting rid of Beadles would shed like 3.5 million ,and Cooper might be the better fit on the bench. Sadly, I see Tomlinson starting at LG, and a battle between Garnett+Cooper for the RG spot with the loser being a back up Guard for us. Magnuson will back up the Center and also guard spots, with Gilliam a swing tackle. That makes 8 line man, I hope we draft Crosby in the 3rd, to be a future starting Tackle for us. Crosby would make 9, and that is the most I could see us having make the 53. I could see us keeping guys like Williams and Lauderdale on the PS, and perhaps a project type Guard that we get in the UDFA pool.

When it comes to the Oline, we like Jonathans, that's all it is

Wouldn't be surprised to see the draft go heavy on defense again with a potential OT drafted in the first two days if our board allows.

Sticking with their philosophy about competition and trying to use free agents to prevent them from having to target positions in the draft, you knew they were going to do some a position in the draft.

I think and Garnett battle it out for a roster spot.

This move means we can cut Beadles and save another $3.5 million. So I am very happy about it.

Yeah I don't think we are drafting a guard before the third round. There goes my Isiah Wynn pipedream....

I don't think you can rule that out. There is no player currently on the roster that is guaranteed a starting spot at guard.

First round bust coming off a good season w/the cowboys. Looks like he's turned a corner in his career. We'll see.

Yup, it looks like he has. This is obviously a big NFL season for his career. I think he could end up starting with us...

I hope he's learned to stay healthy, that's for sure. If so, we may have a good 'un here. Like the others have said, I really think he pushes any potential guard picks to the 3rd day.

They are all pretty much one year deals, so long as the 49ers are willing to take the cap hit to get rid of them. Personally the only difference between the various contracts other than money is the length. Length, I think, is an indication of what they think of the player's potential.Originally posted by NinerGM:Of course you tell him he will "compete" for a starting job.
Keep telling yourselves:
It's a 1-year deal.

Well, it can also be that he only wanted a one year deal to re-build his value for a bigger deal.
