Yep. This sums it all up.

One of the (many) nice things about Lynchahan's openness is that they're very overt in making it clear that they like to double at need positions in both FA and the draft.

A one year deal for Cooper is basically protection against the draft not falling their way on the lineman they're interested in. Maybe the draft doesn't fall their way on OG and he beats out Tomlinson or Magnuson, or maybe the draft does fall their way and he's fighting it out with Tomlinson and Magnuson to not be cut.
Exactly that.

You don't want to spend a mid-round draft pick on a guy just for depth. Bringing in depth now saves a pick but it certainly does NOT mean they would pass on either Nelson or Wynn if they are available.

These make the most sense to me

Agree
I wonder. Did you watch the Falcon vs Cowboys games? I think Adrian Clayborn was against Cooper. He was gave up and allow sack to Daks? I am not sure about it but I saw the games already.

Cooper played guard. Clayborn was beating their backup tackle, Chaz Green.
This is a signal that the team will draft a tackle. If he falls to the late second my money is on the kids from UCLA.

Tomlison- former first rounder, probably will pick uip 5th year option so he is good for two seasons.
Garnett- has a few years left on his contract and we can pick up 5th year option
Cooper- competition for above, if he outplays them will start and get extension.

Center- pray he stays healty.
Eric Magnusson- back up center guard and RT

That being said, you can't completely rule out anything based on past history.

also the coaches know these players and line better. i am amused by those to proclaim we will never draft a guard in round one or two. five minutes before it happened. i bet those same people were saying. there is no way we will trade kilgore
I don't see anyone claiming this guy as the missing link. He could start at a guard spot. We currently have 2 open guard spots. One might be a rookie, but they are bringing in competition to get a good looks at guys that may fit the system. They need 90 guys to bring to camp.

sorry but when i see posts that say. we are now done with the o line. i do not see any reason to further address the line. i like this current line just the way it is. that leads me to think cooper was the piece we needed and now its all good

Damn that Bill Walsh and his finesse offense. I guess we'll see, but maybe he was miss cast and not asked to play to his strengths, and that now changes. In Kyle we trust.

I've been saying all along, imo, this off season is all about getting players that fit Kyle's offense, even if that isn't apparent talent upgrades on the conventional scale. Kyle is going to get players that will allow him to run his offense, instead of changing it to fit an RGIII or a Carlos Hyde. That's the goal. Let Kyle be Kyle, and show us what he can do without some schmuck telling him who to draft, trade for or play for the first time in his life.
Agree with both posts. I watched the DAL vs LAR game (2017) and no, Cooper can't handle ADonald - no surprise there. His best plays were when he was hunting down LBs at the second level in the run game. I agree with the scouting reports that say he's more finesse than power, although it was only one game. Lots of recent relevant film with Cooper to check out.
To BOI's point I really agree with the bolded. Perhaps Cooper's ability is totally equal in magnitude to Tomlinson's - average at best. But at least he fits what Kyle wants to do. For example, they both might be equal at pass pro, but Cooper's skillset in the run game (mobility) is a better scheme fit than Tomlinson's.

i do not have the time to sift through posts to fine it. it was there. of course even if i produced it. you would say i took it out of context. if you have not seen posts proclaiming our line is fine and is not as bad as some say.. well that is your problem.

Basically nobody on here said we are done now with the offensive line. Seems like you made it up.

thats fine. you and i agree on nothing anyway. i know what i read and saw. even if its a few who feel that way. its unsettling to think there are some who think we are just fine. why else would someone create a post called. is our offensive line as bad as some think,

Hmmm. I see what you did there.
