49ERS release Mike Person

Give him a 3 year deal that's really a two year deal, but continue to look for an upgrade (similar to Kilgore being extended last season). Bringing Person back at least brings some continuity back. I just hope 2018 wasn't a big fluke since Person had been playing at journeyman level prior.

What I'd find scary is Garnett being plan A (at RG) coming into the free agency signing period, or Garnett/Magnusson vs rookie in training camp. That's too risky.

Yep, sign Person and look to try to upgrade when we can.

Agreed. Person can also play C in this scheme in a pinch.

NC, I still see Person as depth, not a starter. Kyle saw him that way too and may still see him that way.

Yeah, he played very well for 3 quarters and fell off a lot in 4Q like most of the OL.

Now, to be fair, maybe with a full off season to train as a starter and in the same system that suits him, perhaps he performs at a higher level and more consistently for another year.

But that shouldn't preclude from trying to upgrade talent at both G and C spots plus develop a LT.
Guess they are looking to resign him...I guess if it's a reasonable deal, but I'm not too impressed with him...or any of the interior guys for that matter

I hear ya. Have you heard any updates? The last I heard MM reported they were pretty far apart. But that was a couple weeks ago.

Lol good. Makes me think he wants starter money and they view him as depth....hopefully

Well said, Thl, on both issues. Having Garnet as plan A....unhhhh....mmm unh. Wonder just how bad the split is...$2 mil...3...4. ? If it isn't that great a few measly mil is one heckuva lot better than staying up at nite hoping Garnet doesn't have to start next day. This is exactly where they fluffed last yr. Hope and more hope on what was in the cabinet....which wasn't all that good. Oh, and FR Qb lost to injury. True, wasn't from a sack but sure could have been...or hits.

Give Person a 3yr deal, with years 2 and 3 being option years, he played well, can play RG, C, and T, I say keep him.

I was all for this the moment season ended. That was followed by absolute certainty Person was gone. What the heck happened? NT convinced me he was gone already. I understood that to mean it was a done deal. Obviously it wasnt. Pay the guy, dang it, and lets' get on down the road. Now if they insist on signing Saffold from the Rams, ok, i;m sold on that one instead. If we don't have Saffold, then by all means let's get Person secured.

Poor guy. 7 pages.

Fans see G's like Kyle does.

He is the perfect backup player to all positions. We need a quality starter in front of him though.
