Yes, this exactly. We might as well disregard free agency this year IMO because we need to get all our guys signed first and foremost. Building quality depth on the OL is going to be one of the first and most important steps we need to make if we want to build on this season.

Yup, I don't see SF spending top dollar on anyone outside of our own this upcoming off season. Maybe they bring in some low level guy (like Person was) but at that point is it much of an upgrade?

Move down in the draft ( a couple times) recoup picks and get scheme fit lineman. I actually have faith in this FO/coaching staff to get the right guys and develop them.

Only $16 million in cap space? Can that be right? Less than Dallas, Seacawks, and the Rams.

Colts and Bills sitting pretty at $90 mill to spend.

I would give James Ferentz a look. He shouldn't cost much and would fit this blocking scheme well. I liked him a lot when he was at Iowa. Smart, reasonably athletic center with good footwork and balance, would be a nice guy to throw in and compete for a backup spot.

Can he play Guard ?
Brandon Scherff would be the only guy I would give a decent contract IF we're going to upgrade in FA. He would be the biggest upgrade from Person. I'm sure he wants to play for a contender for a chance to get a ring.

Love this guy! He would be dope but I doubt we go after him.

Only if he loves Shanny and wants to win, and is willing to give us a beak. We have so many guys to sign.

Me too.

The very good thing about a quality vet is they're proven under fire.
When we win the SB - maybe Staley will retire and we'll need to take a longer look at the list.

they can roll over this yrs cap which is like $15.5M as well. so more like $32.2M.

Also throw in about $12M in cuts, give extensions to Juice/Tarrt/Sherm, and if they want they can restructure JG's contract and save $19M (he's the LT answer so who cares).

They don't need to be big spenders in FA (they've done that the past couple yrs). They need to resign their own.

He already said no to retiring. He's going to playout his contract. Over the course of the past three games he's been playing at an elite level. No one here should want him to retire.
These dudes will get way overpaid due to lack of quality options available.

Agreed as far as signing their own. Thanks for the breakdown.

Per the summary in the link the roll over from 2019 is about $11.3 million and included in the $16 million. So yeah, our current 2020 cap space is $16 million.
overthecap.com figures close to the same.

I don't believe that is true. The number in salary they are quoting is the number they have committed in salaries with their best estimate with the cap going up. Don't believe that does include any roll over.

If they can even get $10 mil outta JG that would help a lot. Extensions need to be handed out, also if the 9ers win the Super Bowl I think Staley retires. How much could the 9ers save or lose if Staley does in fact retire?

Either way I think the 9ers remain competitive for the next few years with the QB and running game guided by Shanahan. 9ers will save a ton of money by having a franchise QB and affordable but effective RB's and not having to payout a Ezekiel Elliot type contract.

Staley isn't retiring. He's said as much multiple times.
