Either way I think the 9ers remain competitive for the next few years with the QB and running game guided by Shanahan. 9ers will save a ton of money by having a franchise QB and affordable but effective RB's and not having to payout a Ezekiel Elliot type contract.

Staley isn't retiring. He's said as much multiple times.

True, but if he wins a Super Bowl his decisions may change. He almost retired in 2017 until Shanahan talked him out of it. So who knows!!
I hope we draft an Olineman in the first 2-3 rounds every year and just keep them coming. Keep our line young, healthy and good.

You don't draft Oline every year. You keep the ones that work for depth like what we currently have this year. There is a limit on the roster. That would be just be a waste of draft capital

I agree, not a fan of over-drafting, as you will inevitably run into a numbers game. Staley plays 1 more year I think-win, lose, or draw.

We only have a 1st. rounder, followed by some 5th.-7th. rounders. Unless we trade down-I don't see us being able to draft in rounds 2-4.

Only $16 million in cap space? Can that be right? Less than Dallas, Seacawks, and the Rams.

Colts and Bills sitting pretty at $90 mill to spend.

they can roll over this yrs cap which is like $15.5M as well. so more like $32.2M.

Also throw in about $12M in cuts, give extensions to Juice/Tarrt/Sherm, and if they want they can restructure JG's contract and save $19M (he's the LT answer so who cares).

They don't need to be big spenders in FA (they've done that the past couple yrs). They need to resign their own.

This is what I think will happen.
Well so much for John Sullivan having been an option this season.

What is the plan for center moving forward?

Heres what we know:
-Richburg is injured, again, with a torn patellar tendon in Dec. Average 6 month recovery projects TC return.
-Shannahan likes veteran OC who can run his system
-Cap implications
O 8,860,000 cap hit
O 5,580,000 dead money
O 3,280,000 cap savings

Do the Niners resign Garland to a back up deal and roll with Richburg next year? Or, do they cut him, take the cap hit, and sign another veteran?

I still see value in drafting IOL, but where is good value?

Garland should be resigned but a team might pay more considering the offense hasn't skipped a beat with him in, i love Brunskill as a back up for basically every spot and possible starter, don't forget about Ross Reynolds on the PS, I think the niners take an IOL in the 5th or later, 1st couple picks will be at S, WR and CB

They restructured Richburg's contract, his cap hit next yr (according to OTC) is like $4.3M and his DM is like $11.4M...dude isn't getting cut.

without question I'm resigning Garland. It would cost much and he can play both OG spots as well.

Per the summary in the link the roll over from 2019 is about $11.3 million and included in the $16 million. So yeah, our current 2020 cap space is $16 million.
overthecap.com figures close to the same.

As of now on OTC they have SF with $15,524,999 in 2019 cap space. 2020 they have them currently with $15,198,126 in cap space...I don't think they accounted rollover yet...so it's like $30.7M if that all get's rolled over.

Falcons are in cap s**t right now. Alex Mack is a name to monitor. I mocked a Pettis for Mack trade in my latest one.

I could see some kind of trade happening with Mack even if it isn't us

Agree

Totally agree.

He's a keeper. One guy that can play 3 positions!
I watch the games, and as much as I love Staley,,, just like Sherman: He is starting to show his age. From the injuries, some bad games (Seattle, SB) Why people wanna keep him for 15+ years is beyond me. Bill Walsh used to get rid of a guy a year too early, rather than a year too late- and it worked fine, we never missed a beat- RELOAD, NOT REBUILD.!
