2020 roster moves

Some of these moves won't be popular but I think they will help us long term.
1. franchise Armstead and trade for 2nd round pick if he wants more than 13 mil
2. let Ward walk and start Moore more size and speed just needs to work on some of his tackling angles
3. hard to say this but trade sherm for a 3rd or 4th! I know he's been solid for us but a lot of it is QB's scared to test him. We could double our remaining salary cap by moving on and getting younger he makes 13 mil this year without bonuses
4. release Coleman and McKinnon
5. trade Goodwin and Thomas for 5th or 6th rounders
6. let sanders walk too expensive! I know he was big for us down the stretch but don't forget we were 7-0 without him. Hurd and Taylor return this year
7. sign Melvin Gordon get a legit 1-2 punch with him and Mostert. Gordon should be reasonably priced after his lack luster season last year.
8. if we move Armstead and Sherm we should have a 1,2,&4round pick at minimum
9. use additional 5,6,&7 round picks to move around a little more draft cb, wr, ol by best available at position each round.
10. extend DJ Jones and Blair
11. kick the tires on Ronald Darby he may come cheap after his injury and down year last year
12. we all know extend Kittle and Defo thats just understood
I.m not sure any of the top 5 cb or wr will fall to us in first round but these are my first rounders I'd like to see us choose from if they are available
CB-Diggs, Henderson, Terell, or Fulton
WR- Mims, Jefferson, Aiyuk

We have plenty of depth on D line still after moving on from Armstead and Thomas
Replace Sherm with a cheap young corner
Give JG a big fast physical weapon! obviously I like Mims here (6'4 runs 4.3) having Mims, Bourne, and Hurd to play outside with Deebo and Taylor working the slot and the GOAT at te
Gordon and Mostert in the backfield
Ford, Bosa, Defo, Blair, and Jones
Quan, Fred, Dre
KW, Mosely, Darby, rookie
Moore, Tartt

I know a lot of you guys won't like this because of trading Sherm and Armstead but we need draft capitol and salary cap space. I know Armstead and Sherm both had a great year last year. I made this trying to think of ways to get younger for sustained success bc we probably won't be able to keep Sherm past this year anyway and Armstead may have had a 1 hit wonder season bc we've all watched him under perform for years prior to this year. either way parting with both of them saves us at least 26 mil in salary this year and we still have a lot of depth on the D line and can draft a young fast cb to replace Sherm.

I understand the previous post and suggestions. Sherman is not gonna get traded. He lines up the DB's almost every play. Too valuable and play is still off the charts.
Armstead might get tagged and traded. I prefer them to sign him.
I agree trade Thomas for a late rd pick for salary cap purposes.
A big NO to Melvin Gordon. Fragile and wants to get paid. Hard pass. 2 years ago for sure.
Coleman May get released. I doubt it.
McKinnon needs to get cut or give all that money back.
Sign Sherman to a one yr extension.
Resign to extensions Buckner, Kittle, Juice, K-Williams, DJ Jones and Blair.

I think Gordon could come cheap this year!
I would prefer we keep Armstead also but I think he's going to want too much money

I was with it until 3/7. They spend way too much money on running back. This year proved we don't need to spend money on that position to get. Elite production. Just draft an athletic back in the 6th or 7th(or ufa). Also keep sherm. We still need him while we develop cb's.

I'm only saying get Gordon if he comes cheap after a down year and I love sherm but I think trading him this year for a pick and freeing up 13 million in cap space vs him probably walking next year and we get nothing for him seems like the better option. The 49ers did it with Ronnie Lott also before his final year on his contract and that broke my heart as well. What 2 positions would you like to see us address first if we were to get a 2nd rounder for Armstead?

I'd love if we could get Diggs first round and Mims second round or vice versa
I don't think we need Gordon as Shanahan can basically take almost any running back as long as they fit his scheme and turn them into gold just look at Breida last year and Mostert this year.
As for AA the CBA plays a part in it as we could have a slight increase in cap space but also his number that he wants. To play it safe just say they franchise him and then trade him for a 2nd, you cant then trade Sherm after that because you need him to mentor the CB coming in for at least a year maybe two so that they can take over.

The way to try to get cap space is to do extensions with guys like Juice, K Waun, Sherm, Buck and Kittle so that their numbers this year are not that high or are moved to years were we have more cap space like 2021. Maybe even restructuring Jimmy's contract could free up some space as well.
philgardis49 I agree I'd love to have to Sherm stay and mentor but I'm not sure that it's a luxury we can afford right now. I also know that Kyle makes our RBs good but if we can get a premier rb for cheap why not? I also think that if he had Gordon our running game would've been more effective between the tackles when we needed to milk the clock in the superbowl. Excellent points about the extensions also I'm just not sure that everybody wants to restructure. I also agree tag and trade AA for a 2nd rounder so we get a good corner and receiver early. Hopefully we are able to make some moves without having to mortgage the future though! Revenge tour 2020!!

Like the moves!!
Does jimmy graham make sense on the cheap as a TE2 and red zone threat

I would say a big no bc even on the cheap let's say 5-6 mil a year, that money can be better used to sign a starter of ours or a free agent to replace a starter that left like sanders or ward, not a second string TE to kittle
Would love to see hpw teams try to defend kittle/graham/deebo

I'm not sure how cheap Graham would be but for the right price why not!

Because Jimmy Graham is the anti-George Kittle in terms of toughness and I for one would like to keep toughness kept as a valued trait among 49ers players.

I'd say we already have several players on the roster that I wouldn't necessarily say were tough especially in comparison to GK!! I don't think we even need another TE honestly I know Celek retired but he didn't play last year anyway! I'd like to see us add IOL WR and CB depth in free agency and the draft! But I agree with you I want to add tough aggressive players!
