Buck, Day, Zettel (came in late but did well), Blair coming off an ACL, Taylor an ACL, Ford and Street always a ?

DL still a strength, but it doesn't feel as stable at the moment. Hopefully we have a couple guys waiting to step up.

Same. I think realistically, we sign 2 of our 3 starters in-house FA's and extend 1 of 2 in-house upcoming FA's with 2 or 3 outside FA starters was realistic plus all our cheap depth and ST.

Nothing wrong with saying they haven't used FA to get better and they're currently worse at this pt. Facts are facts They can still do something.

We will after the draft.

LOL what did you expect them to do?

Not get worse?

It was bound to happen. They just went to a super bowl. How are they supposed to not get worse? You can't keep everyone. Gotta build through the draft at this point.

Technically, we could. Even Buckner & Sanders. But they made a bold and brazen move to not have to pay $21M to an IDT who's not a stellar pass rusher. Smart.

That said, there are still holes all over at RG, C, T, ER, TE2, CB, XWR, etc...

...so if you chose to move on from Buckner, you need to add a few starters in FA elsewhere. And they chose not too.

So, they got worse and our #1 competitors got stronger.

Any of these options would of done nicely
Resign sanders
Trade for obj
Sign Klein vs Compton
Sign Suh
Sign Chris Harris
Along with a lot of other fairly priced free agents that we needed

It happens my man. Teams typically take a dip after a super bowl loss. I get what Lynch is trying to do. They weren't re-signing buckner next year. A top 15 pick sets you up for the future. It is obviously dependent on the pick panning out.

Now was it smart to pick Armstead over Buck, that is another debate.
NC, you were equally as pessimistic and down in the front office last off-season, and I remember because up until that point you had been one of the more reasonable and positive posters, and then last year....

The sky is not falling and apparently "you don't just come in and take a guy like AAs job" held true.

That's fair. I was in that camp last year too. It was the first year I wasn't as optimistic as I usually am. This year I'm displaying the same Somewhat negative attitude but I trust the front office a little more now. However since we are so so close to a sb I want to improve with some of these reasonable signings especially after losing buckner and Sanders

They gotta do something they lost 1,130 snaps between Buck/Day

This. Been banging the table for Harris for a week now. Solid football player but not holding my breath either.

Who do you think the best interior defensive tackle available? Overall against the run/pass. I prefer the best pass rusher out of them

Last off season? They actually followed my off season plan to a literal T. Not joking. It was creepy. I was ecstatic with their plan. And it helped get us to a Superbowl despite 16 more players on I.R.

Maybe you're thinking of the OL concerns and pass protection issues? I cry about that every year because I know it's going to cost us eventually. And it sure did.

It doesn't have to be though. These are conscious decisions and they clearly had a plan to mildly test the FA waters but keep most of the team together minus Buckner, Sanders, Day, Person and Toilolo.

They've done a really nice job locking up AA/Ward and all their depth and ST.

I actually liked all the moves esp. the Buckner trade. But like I said, if you're going discard Buckner, I felt they needed to spread that cap savings this year to a few other starting position needs.

Their inactions are that of a team that has it's sights sets on bypassing 2020 for a 2021 run. They don't seem to have the hunger to improve and go for it like the Saints and other competitors. Hell, they even took Sanders away from us for a modest contract making us weaker and them stronger.

That's how this FO operated through the 90's...stealing from the Cowboys (Ken Norton Jr.). We won a Superbowl. Then they stole Deion Sanders and they won a Superbowl.

Even if most of you feel like we were being prudent, keep in mind our salary cap position next year it will be close to 60 million so we could've easily restructured one more contract or let go of a player or two to compensate for signing a good player to help our team immediately.

We're forgetting the Saints improved their roster and so did Seattle. We still have to try to outscore teams like Kansas City Seattle or the Saints or if we play Baltimore In the Super Bowl we still have to put up points against their good defense. It's not just about our team it's about who we will be facing and how they improved their teams While we remain idle And rely on our rookie class to make an immediate impact? Yeah how often does that work out

I'm not convinced that the Saints got better. They lost Von Bell, Klein and Bridgewater while gaining Emmanuel Sanders.

Like NC said not get worse or at least try to improve in areas that needed to be improved...instead they got worse there as well.

I understand the Buck move BUT if you're gonna do that at the very least bring in a vet (who will cost substantially less) to take on some meaningful snaps. They haven't done that yet.

If Brunskill is the answer at RG, then why the f**k wasn't he the starting RG in the Super Bowl? Person played a big part in that loss. I know Compton won't be the starter, but it's a drop in talent which is hard to do when moving on from Person

Bringing in Benji doesn't do anything for anyone, like others have said it's basically our Matthews signing. Cool.

In my last mock I stated I was expecting little in FA and I knew it would mostly be about resigning our own. Ain't nobody expecting the Buck move though...that freed up $13M right off the bat. They could have signed a guy like Harris Jr and Gerald McCoy with that new money.
