There is no one on the FA market at WR that id pickup in lieu of who is currently on the roster. An injury or two would change my mind

you beat me to it.. just looking for someone at least respectable and better than jordon matthews

The only type of FA WR that would make the team is one with return ability. None of those guys are better than what we have.

You mean better than:

Kendrick Bourne
Dante Pettis
Brandon Aiyuk??
Jalen Hurd??
Trent Taylor??
Shawn Poindexter

Three of those are question marks with experience and injuries. They definitely need to bring someone in.

You think any of the bolded would get cut? Then you have Deebo coming back. That's 5 already.

That's one spot left and like I said... we need a KR since our backup in DJ Reed went down.

I'm fine with bringing someone in but they would need to play special teams to make the team and most of the players you mentioned wouldn't return kicks.

Edit: You left out Jauan Jennings too. There is very little room at all.

I'm just not gonna hold my breath that Taylor or Hurd stay healthy, heard that song last season right before they ended up on IR. Dante Pettis sucks. Brandon Aiyuk has the potential to be a star but in the end he's still a rookie.

But if they don't bring in a veteran, I hope they trade for one.

i totally agree. i hope like everyone does taylor or hurd will be healthy but we have seen that before. pettis has had many chances but blows them all. our depth is suspect in the first place cuz of the injuries these players have had plus two are rookies. the injuries and what travis opted to do is pecking away at the depth

Pettis only had 1 bad season, he deserves to fight for a roster spot, I'd rather have the guys we have now than sign an old washed up veteran like AB or Dez, or sign on an unreliable Josh Gordon.

Sure Pettis deserves to fight for a roster spot. But he just plain sucks, there's a reason he was a healthy scratch this past season. And of course I wasn't thinking of veterans like AB or Dez. But veterans who could provide depth and start if needed, veterans I mentioned above.

I think it's unfair to say Pettis plain sucks after 1 bad year when he had a nice rookie year, look at AA and Ward, they were called busts right away, but proved otherwise in recent years, not crazy to think Pettis can turn it around.

Yah but look at the attitudes from AA and Ward, the kept at it, worked hard. They weren't on twitter acting stupid and silly, they weren't inactive during the season when healthy. Pettis is a moron, at least that's what he's shown me so far and there's nothing he's done to show why they shouldn't sign a veteran. And I have no doubt they will.

The problem is we will only keep 7 WRs at most with one designated as a return specialist.

Deebo Samuel
Kendrick Bourne
Brandon Aiyuk
Jalen Hurd
Trent Taylor
Jauan Jennings
Richie James - KR/PR
Dante Pettis - PR?

Trading for a WR means you expect to drop or put on our practice squad one of these bolded players. I think there is zero chance that happens.

You want to sign a WR to compete with this group? Fine. But it would be a mistake to give up any significant amount of draft capital with how little cap space we have.

The line up from today never looks the same when the 53 is official. I can all but guarantee you that one of them if not two will end up on IR with a designate to return before the 53 is official. Right now James and Deebo aren't guaranteed to be there week 1, so now you're really down to six WR's and the group looks even worse now. Next you're banking on the health of an injury prone receiver in Trent Taylor who's missed almost 18 games since 2018. Again I'm not holding my breath for this group. This is pretty much the same group of receivers the 49ers had last season and they still traded for Emmanuel Sanders.

Except its not... you may not be high on Taylor, Hurd, and Aiyuk but I am. If those three can stay healthy we will be more than fine and I'm not one to sugarcoat my feelings on position groups.

My only real concern is Deebo. If he has a setback that will hurt us significantly.

Otherwise, Taylor +Hurd+ Aiyuk (with their injury concerns but healthy to begin the season) > Sanders and it's not even close imo.

Sure it's the same now like it was in training camp last season, but again you're banking on every WR making outta camp healthy. Reason I'm not as optimistic of Taylor and Hurd's ability to stay healthy because I believe both WR's sustained non-contact injuries. I will honestly be amazed if Shanahan doesn't add someone especially when they had recent interest in Jarius Wright.

The point is whoever you bring will be subjected to the same injury risk as these other players we already have.

My question for you is... would you cut any of the bolded players for a trade acquisition WR? Because that's what you're essentially saying.

I already said I don't mind signing another veteran. But just like last season with Matthews, I doubt they come close to making the roster unless they can return kicks.

Trading for another WR is not gonna happen.

But he did. It's only the same group if you assume Deebo, Hurd, and Taylor will all stay injured this coming season.

I think that's a bigger leap to assume that then 1-3 of them remain healthy.
