Yannick Ngakoue - 2021 Free Agent

Suprised he hasn't had a thread yet, and I've almost started one so many times.

Here's the rundown. as of 2020

25 years old and averaging 9.5 sacks per year since entering the league. He had 12 his best year. Has also caused the 4th most fumbles since entering the league.

He wants out of Jacksonville, and has been franchised with a first round tender.

My big question for you guys, would you be willing to trade the 31st overall pick for Ngakoue?

Here's my pros and cons

PROS
Excellent young speed rusher who would pair very nicely with Bosa on the edges.

Has experience in a similar defensive system. Could always use more pass rush.

With a first round tender, he could potentially be had for the 31st overall pick, as long as someone doesn't out bid us.... looking at you Seattle!

CONS

$$$ he is going to want a new contract and will most likely want more than we can afford without moving money around. We would have to throw in another player with a high salary to make it work, and we still need to resign Kittle.

He is very similar to what Dee Ford offers, and we would have to move Bosa inside on passing downs to get all 3 on the field. However, I don't foresee Ford ever becoming a 3 down player again, and he will be used almost exclusively in pass rushing situations.

Bottom line - I highly doubt we make a move, but corona virus.... so let's hear the hypothetical? What are your thoughts on the topic? Would you want to trade for him, and if so, what would you be willing to give up.

UPDATE Jan 2021

This is still the guy that I feel like we should target to compliment Bosa and replace Ford.

He isn't come to SF that's for sure. My guess is the Colts swing a trade for him. They have money, he fits their sceheme and makes their D-Line hella good with Buckner and Justin Houston there too.

Edit: Probably not the Colts because they are in the same division.

I think the lions would be a good fit. It would be similar to the Ford deal if they could do their 2nd round pick.
I hope Seattle does not get him
Beast. Would love to have him.
Niners would need to trade Ford if this happened. And what could you realistically get for Ford? A 2nd or 3rd round pick? If you can get a late 2nd/early 3rd for Ford, then it would be pretty tempting.

I like Dee Ford a lot so unless the Niners medical people think he's damaged goods, I'd probably ride it out with him.

I mean a year ago we traded a future 2nd (that ended up being a late 2nd) for him. I can't see his value depreciating that much. I would think he could net a 3rd...

You gotta acquire him and then give him a phat contract vs. signing Clowney for a 1 year prove it deal or addressing the need in the draft.

Seahawks would be my dark horse candidate to acquire him. They can cut Justin Britt to front-load a contract extension. And they have a tendency to trade their 1st round picks.

Ford is great on third down and when healthy. However, he is getting older and players don't tend to get more durable as they age, nor more productive. Even when healthy, we only use him on passing downs. One of our top paid players is a situational pass rusher with health concerns.

Hypothetically, if we got Yannick, we would have to have a trade partner for Ford, and I think he would most likely not a 3d round pick for a super bowl ready team... it's not going to happen, but figured it was worth a discussion
He's going to be way too expensive for us, way too expensive for us especially with some of the contracts we have coming up. The best we can hope for is Seattle not to get him or a good team that threatens our Super Bowls. That's sad but it's true. We can't rely on horrible drafting teams like Seattle to draft good players they just steal them.

YANNICK NGAKOUE still wants out of Jacksonville.

Dumb question...could they trade Ford and other assets for Ngakoue?

What's the point of going after Ngakoue when most want to trade Ford to clear salary? Ngakoue is going to get serious bank, I think Ford's replacement is in college right now

I don't think the question is could they trade Ford and other assets, I think the question should be would they except Ford and other assets!!!

With Ford's contract and injury history, I doubt they'd want anything to do with that trade.

Leverage. They can let Yannick sit out, or they can trade and get Ford to fill in the gap. Ford would be good on their team, because they have so much defensive line depth, where he could still limit his snap count to passing downs. I doubt it will ever happen. We don't have the assets to make this trade unless we do draft picks, but if we kept Ford, we be paying him and Yannick about the same, so 2 salaries for 1.5 players.
