Pperhaps, but I read it more as "man, we really could have used another option / man beater in the superbowl last year" and deebo and Juaun having this season potentially being their last with the 49ers

They must have really got a good prognosis on Huffs timetable to return and maybe confident in it and the pairing of him and Brown

Yeah and Gipson may be the guy to sign a 1 year deal and ease back in Huf. Simmons would want to be a starter indefinitely and he deserves to be. That means Brown will go back to the bench if Huf and Simmons start. That's why we won't be signing Simmons, Diggs and other starting safeties.

Seriously, even with Hufanga back, I still think they should sign Simmons. He can't be trusted to return back to his All Pro level after his injury.
