SAINTS WAFFORD RELEASED

$5M? Is this 1984?

Yep lol. Only way we could ideally save big bucks in unloading Solly, which would be hard to find a taker for his contract.

Haha. That'll certainly be the excuse but the reality is we're 16th in cap space right now; teams with less than us are already going after him. We definitely could fit him under and with only Kittle and TW to pay next year with $80M in cap space, we're in great shape to make this move IF THEY WANT.

Philisophically, they won't though IMHO. They've had numerous chances over the past 4 years to improve the G position but have passed every time.

They like to moneyball the G position (Tomlinson and Person/Brunskill make 1/2 of him COMBINED) and spend elsewhere.

You can get by with this strategy when you have dynamic T and C play but when one of those isn't there or playing at a high level to cover up the talent deficiency, it gets ugly and gets ugly fast in the pass protection.

The Saints supposedly owe him $5M so if we give him a $5M contract he would essentially be making $10M for the season.

They'd still have to pay half of Thomas' contract. They can cut Compton/beathard/Nze/Benjamin and have like $22M in cap space.

Why wouldn't he ask for $10 million and take the $5 million from the Saints as relocation expenses?

Just because he's getting money from the Saints doesn't mean he'll take less than he can get on the open market. The going rate for an above average guard is at least $9 million a year.

Hell a year ago the Saints paid Nick Easton $6 million a year just to be a backup.

Lol not everyone values a RG like you do

He's got cash coming from NO regardless and teams aren't gonna be handing out big fat contracts at this pt in the off season...Teams haven't been Tossing around big $ to FA this yr (especially to players that aren't on their roster).

FWIW Warford is a upgrade no doubt (id like him here)... is he worth what some of ya'll think he's gonna get ($10M+) that's very debatable.
