Trade idea (Julio Jones)

There is no end to this, not until Julio gets traded to another team or Atlanta decides to keep him. You guys forget that we just witnessed an offseason where everyone was predicting doom and gloom for tons of teams in cap hell, yet most of them added more talent or found creative ways to keep their team's mostly intact without having to gut their rosters.

Let's also not forget that Shanny/Lynch recently called about Aaron Rodgers because acquiring ELITE talent helps your quest in winning a superbowl when your window is currently open. I would love to hear how adding Rodgers was feasible, especially since he wants a new deal, but adding Julio isn't? In both scenarios Jimmy's large cap hit would be moved to create cap space, but in this scenario we would hand the keys to a guy we just traded multiple 1st for, instead of the reigning MVP, but giving him multiple elite weapons would certainly help Lance's transition to the pros. With Trey on a rookie contract, now is the perfect time to make a move for a WR like Julio.

So would Julio cost us the ability to retain some of our players down the line? Maybe guys like Mostert and the Verrett types, but not the important cornerstones like Warner. The same way all these other teams restructured contracts to keep loaded rosters, I'm not sure why people think we'd be screwed if we added a top 5 WR, who has a cap hit that's pretty manageable for the next 2 years. After the Trey Lance trade, I don't think this team is playing it safe anymore as they watch our division opponents throw caution to the wind as they also chase a championship.

So AB you're definitely a cap genius and I appreciate all your work keeping us updated, but I'll believe we aren't interested in Julio when some concrete news comes out saying we aren't one of the teams trying to acquire him after June 1st. I just can't see Shanny not jumping at such an opportunity when we all know how much he loves a talent like that.

The ONLY way SF would be able to get Julio at this point is if he's either willing to redo his contract completely & they cut/trade Jimmy now.

He's also 32 and played what 9 games last yr? There's a MASSIVE difference between getting a chance to get the current MVP of the NFL in Rogers vs a older expensive WR.

ATL is one of "these teams" that constantly restructure contracts and are now trying to unload a guy like Julio. Same s**t happened in NO/Philly/Oakland. Outside of QB or say LT you shouldn't be restructuring older expensive vets...especially at the WR position. Also it's not just about signing Warner. It's about resigning Bosa, future RT, Deebo, Greenlaw having the cash for depth etc. Remember SF is without a 1st rd pick for the next 2 yrs as well.

We'd all like Julio but it financially doesn't make sense AND you have to actually trade something on top of it. AB laid it out perfectly, not gonna happen unless he wants to play for A LOT less on a SB roster.

The only MUST SIGN in the next 2 years is Warner. By the time Bosa's new deal kicks in, Julio would already be gone. I like Verrett, Moseley, Greenlaw, and even McGlinchey, but none are irreplaceable and their replacements might already be on the roster. You can maybe make a case for Deebo being a must sign, but he actually has to show his playstyle can allow him to stay on the field before you throw a large deal to keep him.

If Julio is fully healthy and is willing to restructure his contract, but most importantly, the price to acquire him is reasonable, we'd be fools to pass on a guy that changes the way defenses have to play. Kyle would now have a suped up version of the explosive offense he had in Atlanta. We'd be a top 3 favorite to win the superbowl if we don't get decimated by injuries again.

If this cost us a few decent players down the road, then so be it. Windows don't stay open for long in this league and you'd think our fanbase would know this considering we blew our chance under Baalke because he wasn't aggressive enough upgrading positions that we had weaknesses at because of his conservative approach when it came to free agency/trades.

With Trey being on a rookie deal for a few more years, NOW is the time to be aggressive, whether that be Julio or even throwing the rest of our cap at guys like Golden Tate or Ryan Kerrigan. Most of these other contenders are being aggressive as ever as they chase a title and we have no excuse not to be doing the same.

SF has more than one must sign OR FAs to sign...they have like 35 players under contract in 2022 and that's with Ford/richburg/Jimmy on the roster.

it doesn't make sense at all.

Which player that I haven't mentioned is a must sign in 2022 that we simply can't afford to let walk? Most of the guys becoming free agents are mostly the same players many thought we'd lose this past free agency and most had their potential replacements drafted. So somehow Lynch, Shanny, Peters, and Paraag figured it out.

I refuse to believe that many other contenders in the league have front offices that figured out how to manipulate the hell out of the cap by pushing money down the road, but somehow we'd be immediately screwed if we acquired Julio. The only thing that should make Lynch hesitant is Atlanta's asking price or Julio's health. If both are good, then I'm all for it.

Move on from Jimmy, restructure contracts, re-sign those that need to be re-signed, and give yourself a 2-3 year window of trying to win a championship or two with a loaded roster. After that you have to hope that Lance is special enough to keep us in contention and lead a roster that won't be as loaded until they can build it back up again.
Trading for Julio(or another big time receiver) makes a ton of sense with Lance on the roster. The whole point of having a QB on a rookie deal is to try to stack the team everywhere else. It would be nice to have an elite WR with the Niners once again.

Who's contract are you restructuring? There aren't really any. Only way I see Julio coming here is if HE takes a pay cut and we move on from Jimmy before his money becomes gtd. I also have no idea what they would accept for a compensation.

Toss in personnel groupings...either we abandon our 21 personnel have Juice sitting on the bench or Deebo takes a big hit in snaps.

Prefer OBJ coming off an ACL than Julio but I still wouldn't be mad adding Julio for the RIGHT price

OBJ would be nice if the Niners could "buy low" on him...maybe it wouldn't cost that much in terms of trade compensation to get him?
nahhhh.

Moving on from Jimmy and Mostert alone is more than enough. Some of y'all act like it's impossible, but I doubt Shanny isn't thinking long and hard about if we should pursue Julio next month. Shanny raves about him and putting Julio with Kittle/Aiyuk/Deebo is terrifying. Lance most likely wins OROY with all those weapons.
If he could be had for a 2nd then sure
Chatter's getting louder

I never said it was impossible, I'm saying listen to AB he knows WAY MORE than you or I when it comes to the cap.

SF basically moving on from the personnel group they've been building up now for yrs? You can't play 21 personnel unless you're sitting one of Aiyuk/Deebo/Jones. For whatever reason I don't see that happening.

Having a top running game will also help Lance a ton. I'm not holding my breath on Jones. Wouldn't hate it just because it's a sexy move....not sure how practical it is.
