Trade idea (Julio Jones)

I wouldn't want to lose Deebo or Aiyuk.

I'd say a 2nd and 4th get it done...not sure it has to be in the same yr either. I doubt any team moves a player, that doesn't happen much.

I also think Julio will have a little say in where he goes too.

Sign me up for that then!

im confused why we are in the running for Julio dont get me wrong it would be a great addition but we dont have draft capital and we have 2 young starting WRs that are more than capable of starting

also i dont think its good to trade any of our cornorstone young players for him

I guess it would depend on what the cost is to trade for him...I don't think it's gonna be a 1st or a bunch of seconds either. He's older, coming off injuries, and expensive. ATL is in need of cap space just to get their rookies signed.

It would be sick to see him in red and gold, but I think a more practical move would be to get a slot guy that's cheaper both in compensation and money. There's a reason they tried to trade for Hamilton.
Old, been banged up, cost is still high. And we can't afford to trade more picks. Plus we have two promising WRs.

So you're talking about taking away around 150 snaps a yr for each guy? I mean that's a lot.

We will see. I'll believe it when I see it....they were in the works to trade for Hamilton like a week ago, not sure how you go from that to Julio lol? Everyone knows ATL has been trying to move him for a while too.

I think the financial barrier will be too much, so unless that gets solved...

And yes between 50 to 150 snaps. It is quite a few, but they will have an extra game. And you are not replacing them with lesser talent, and fewer snaps for jones could boost his productivity.
Us being a run-first football team, already having three legit weapons to pass too, have very little reason to trade for Julio.

Other than being an absolutely unstoppable force on offense, yeah.

Yeah but injuries to WR won't be able to stop us if we have Julio.

That 150 snaps is including the extra game. If he's not getting his 150 targets a yr and you're paying him that much I'm not sure the juice is worth the squeeze...SF isn't gonna be slinging it 600+ times a yr anyway.

I just don't want him going to the NFCW, if they get him cool I don't really care either way too be honest.

I mean Julio get's injured more than our WRs

He plays though.

The injury predictor has him at an 83% chance to get injured in 2021....but only predicted to miss 2.9 games.

I'd probably take it.

Deebo and Kittle have missed more games due to injury the last two seasons than Julio.
Hypothetical from the Atlantic...

The offer: A second-round draft pick in 2022 — on the condition that Jones plays at least 12 games next season. And one of the 49ers' 2023 third-round picks.

Julio Jones is owed a $15.3 million base salary, so the 49ers simply cannot afford him as matters currently stand. We've calculated the 49ers' salary cap situation in the context of a potential 53-man roster — they currently have only about $11 million available.

But that shouldn't disqualify the 49ers as a candidate to land Jones, especially because coach Kyle Shanahan — Jones' former offensive coordinator in Atlanta — said this back in 2018: "If there's a Julio Jones available and you have the opportunity to get him, you go get him, it's worth it. Whatever the price is, whatever the draft pick is, go get him."

So, how might the 49ers financially maneuver to fit Jones into their budget? Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo holds, by far, the team's largest cap hit ($26.4 million), but the 49ers seem intent on keeping him around. They'd have to free up money through restructures elsewhere, and opening enough room for Jones through this avenue might be impossible with a pricey potential extension for linebacker Fred Warner still on the offseason docket.

This means Jones' contract would likely have to be modified to fit the 49ers. A rework of Jones' deal post-trade is theoretically possible, but the 49ers would prefer not to create more potential dead money in the contract of a 32-year old wideout.

It would be more feasible for Atlanta to absorb some of the contract. This is what Carolina did to facilitate its recent trade of Teddy Bridgewater to Denver: The Panthers paid $7 million of the quarterback's $10 million guarantee for this season.

The 49ers obviously wouldn't expect Atlanta to pay the majority of Jones' salary, but they could still ask the Falcons to take on about a third. Let's say $5 million. This would allow the 49ers to fit Jones on their roster with about $1 million to spare. Later in the offseason, they might be able to convert a small chunk of Garoppolo's salary into a signing bonus to free up enough room for Warner's extension and other in-season business. The 49ers would like to have at least $5 million free come September.

Under this scenario, the cash-strapped Falcons would still gain more than $10 million of salary cap space, enough to sign their draft class and remain sustainably operational. Of course, Atlanta would also acquire cost-controlled draft capital. That's mandatory if they're to re-establish salary cap health.

The 49ers no longer hold first-round picks in the next two drafts, hence their offer of a 2022 second-round selection, conditional on Jones playing at least 12 games, plus a 2023 third-rounder. The 49ers have two compensatory picks for the Jets hiring Robert Saleh as head coach and Washington hiring Martin Mayhew as general manager.

The 49ers will have to offer more draft capital than their competitors if Atlanta is to take on that $5 million chunk of Jones' salary. — David Lombardi
