But he won the Super Bowl in 2011 having been drafted in 2005. So the point WINiner was making stands. In 2011 Rodgers was not soaking up Green Bay's cap space as he has done now for a number of years. Which is in all probability why 2011 was his first and last Lombardi. With his talent, there should have been more.

The cap space point is overrated. TB12 won buckets of Super Bowls not on the rook deal. You may say, ok he took less. What about Peyton with Denver? Or Stafford with Rams? Or Mahomes? Should the Chiefs have not paid Mahomes? They paid him and are in the AFCCG or better every season, just won it. So I think the rook QB contract is much ado about nothing. We are current on a rook contract with TL and how is that working, 4 starts, 2 wins in 2 seasons.. no real results.

Having Mahomes on a fat deal > having some rook that may be Dak or may be Paxton Lynch. I don't hear anyone standing up for having the QB on the fat deal so I will be that guy

That said I don't want Rodgers. Not due to the finances, but his age.

Too tired to argue this at length, but you are saying that only the quarterback matters. I believe that we are going to prove that wrong and, in effect, devalue the quarterback.

I'm not saying only the QB matters.. I just genuinely think it's a interesting issue, thanks to how important that spot is and the dynamics of a salary cap on roster construction.

Every team wants that FQB. Question is, what do you do when you land him? KC ponied nearly half a billion long term on Mahomes. I think that's the right move, clearly not every QB is on the Mahomes level. Rodgers was.

In an ideal world TL would be in the elite Burrow, Herbert, Allen tier and we would be paying him a fortune, imo, as we go forward. Or Brock.. whoever we feel is an FQB. Very hard to keep hitting the reset button at that spot every 4-5 years, you will eventually run into a dud in the draft. What was ultra smart about the Mahomes pact, it was 10 years, and is already starting to look like a deal, I mean he has guys like Daniel Jones on his heels a bit contract wise. There is already discussion of that deal needing reworked and KC needing to pay more.
Rodgers wins 1 Super Bowl and is widely considered one of the greatest QBs ever and is a top 5 paid QB regularly is hated and considered the villain.
Brees wins 1 Super Bowl and is widely considered one of the greatest QBs ever and is a top 5 paid QB regularly is loved and considered the hero.
The difference is one only speaks is QB speak he slipped up once and the other speaks his mind.

Thank you, exactly. You proved my point exactly.

Rodgers salaries
Year Salary Earnings
2010 $6,000,000 $6,500,000 The year he won the SB

Top QB Salaries in 2010
Player Team Cap Number
Donovan McNabb Commanders $24,775,000
Peyton Manning Colts $19,266,668
Alex Smith 49ers $17,716,668

Top 10 Super Bowl QB Cap Percentages
2009: Peyton Manning (IND): 18.8%
2016: Matt Ryan (ATL): 15.3%
2013: Peyton Manning (DEN): 14.16%
2021: Tom Brady (TB): 12.61%
2018: Tom Brady (NE): 12.42%
2015: Peyton Manning (DEN): 12.21%
2011: Eli Manning (NYG): 11.71%
2014: Tom Brady (NE): 11.13%
2011: Tom Brady (NE): 10.76%
2007: Eli Manning (NYG): 10.75%

Mahomes tops the charts of winners at 17% from last season, prior to Mahomes Brady had commanded 12.4% as the most by a SB winning QB.

Rodgers will count 14%, 16%, and 21% over the next three years. Thats too much, he's not a godking on Mahomes level anymore.

Too bad it's in KC and not NY like it used to always be. Would love to see the local Jets fans' reactions to it if it happened during the first round.
