WATTS and CLOWNEY were the type of players Bill Walsh used to sign for the 49ers for a year or two.. they got nothing else to prove but just wants to WIN.. JJ know he messed up by signing w/the Cards.. .Clowney's been a BUST and he knows he can't go out like that...
IF both can be signed for 2 years, we will RULE THE WEST !!!

Bates would be my favorite splash signing as well, but I don't see us spending enough to get him. He is already on a team thats been to a super bowl. What appeal do we have that Cinci doesn't and they have all of the cap space. We have to sign Bosa. Ward has played really well and will probably be able to come back on a short term deal way cheaper. If he continues to be productive in the slot, he will be an even greater value.

Andre Dillard - T - Eagles | Buy low candidate as he's never been better than a functional role player, spot starter in this career. However, he's had a slew of injuries that it seems he finally has put behind him. I like him as a cheap competition at RT and depth as a swing tackle.
Clelin Ferrell - DE/DT - Raiders | I expect Omeniheu to get a strong FA offer. As a replacement, Ferrell is a nice cheap option. Former top 5 pick thanks to Mayock, Ferrell is a strong run defender but a pass rush tweener ala Solomon Thomas. I think he could thrive under Kris K.
Byron Murphy - CB - Cardinals | Career worst year in production + injuries. He'd be a nice NB in our scheme depending on Ward's future. West coast guy.
Austin Hooper - TE - Titans | You can blame the offensive scheme, but Hooper's time as a TE #1 may be done. He'd be a fantastic #2, and has direct ties to Shanahan.
Eddie Pineiro - K - Panthers | Clearly had his best year as a kicker. He was money for CAR, although had limited 50+ yard kick attempts. If Gould isn't an option, I like him as a vet if we don't like any of the draft prospects.
I like Dillard and Murphy ideas the most. I never liked Ferrell at all though.
What about Dalton Risner?

But we already rule the West. Niners literally just went 7-0 against the West.
Clowney is a clown and has always been "mefirst" type of dude. He doesn't belong nor fit in here.

No way we pay $$$ for Clowney. He's not taking a cheap contract even if that's all he's worth.
We're more likely to pick up guys who haven't lived up to their hype/draft status so far or maybe an ex player looking to return like Hyder.
Omen, Willis, Key, Street all FA if we wanted guys who already know the system.
Maybe someone like Ferrell as previously mentioned or maybe Winovich could work. With our DL coaching we always have options.

I wouldn't mind Clelin Farrell, but I think they just end up re-signing Omenihu. I'm hoping the 9ers throw money at DaRon Payne or Dalvin Tomlinson. They need more beef upfront.

Payne will be way out of our price range. He might even get the franchise tag.

A lot of good options will be hitting the market, well projected to hit the market. If not Payne and no Tomlinson then my next choice would be Sheldon Rankins.

Brings back memories. Back when Bill Walsh was rebuilding the 49ers, he would hold open tryouts for the "man on the street" to improve the team. The talent level he found after he was hired was that bad.
Your statement, Moon, made me think of Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson. I thought Walsh had signed Hollywood as a free agent. But I was wrong. Walsh actually got fleeced by Tom Laundry, who managed to pry a fourth round pick out of the 49ers for Hollywood.
I did know Hollywood's career in San Francisco was short. I thought he was cut from the team after three or four games. But, as it turns out, Hollywood lasted a grand total of ONE game. I guess he used to snort cocaine DURING games and Walsh picked up on that pretty fast. Hollywood was here and gone.
I do remember the one game he played in. I think it was a preseason game and he may have intercepted a pass. He was quoted in a newspaper the next day as saying the 49ers were "roaring back." And then, Hollywood was Hollygone.

You're most likely right, the 9ers probably won't wanna tie too much money at the DT position. If not Payne, Rankins or Tomlinson, what about Derrick Nnadi who I think is comparable to DJ Jones. Like I said earlier, 9ers need more beef in the middle, they're horrible in 3rd or 4th and short situations.

It's extremely unlikely. Most likely our small amount of cap space will be used to retain some of our free agents.
