Should we try to get DeForest Buckner back

The Kinlaw experiment was a complete bust and failure, since the Colts are pretty horrible, should we try to trade to get him back?

Don't have the draft capital or cap space to do that.
No. Unless he has suddenly decided that he will play for nothing.
still need to figure out how to pay Bosa and Aiyuk this offseason. Because of that, I don't see us being able to afford Buckner.

We'll extend Bosa, but his cap hit won't increase next season.

Aiyuk will probably be asked to wait like Bosa was made to wait so we could take care of Deebo last off season.
Buckner may be cut or traded with the cap hit he's due and the small bonus he has left. 👀

I can't see us affording him. He would have to give a MAJOR discount, which I don't see happening. Run D also takes a hit. I'd go in a different direction if we were going to spend that kind of money- FS and OL.

It's the off-season, so one can dream. I wouldn't spend that money on FS but I would approve splash spending on OL

No FS is going to be worth that money. Just saying if we are going to go there, that's the direction.

Good call!
even though armstead wasn't bad, the comparison between both shows we should have really paid buckner. he is really one of the premiere linemen in the game. armstead is slight above average and kinlaw a bust

I think that the signing of Hargrave has condemned this thread to the "no" pile.

You're leaving out an important detail. Jimmie Ward should be included in that comparison as well. It's AA, Kinlaw, Ward, and I might be leaving someone else out verses Buckner.

Run defense would also be weaker. AA is superior in that regard. No one has ever argued that AA was a better player. He never was, not in college and not in the pros. It's clear Kinlaw is a net negative. But Ward in the mix, the superior run D, and the fact that we had number 1 overall defenses without Buckner, tips the scales towards the AA/Ward/net negative package.

If anything, people should be saying we should've drafted Wirfs instead of Kinlaw and this would be a massive plus for us. One of the top-10 trades.

AA is slightly above average?

According to PFF, he is currently ranked #10 overall Interior Defender. Buckner is ranked #18. AA has a 4-point margin over DeFo in run defense. DeFo has a 3-point margin in pass rush. They are interchangeable pieces this year.

FWIW, Hargrave is right between the two.

EDIT: Kinlaw certainly has not earned his draft status but he has moved up about 10 spots since the early season. His weakness is in run defense. His pass rush has been decent.
