Zach Allen, DL

I loved this dude the year he came out. I don't know how much he's going to cost, but he checks all the boxes for a 49ers' DL. He's a big(6-4, 280 lbs), long(35" arms) body with the versatility to play inside and out; tough and physical as s**t; relentless motor; surprising quicks off the ball with plus play strength. He's dude willing to play selfless and do the dirty work, which is a requirement in Kocurek's scheme. I think his potential was stunted in Arizona playing in a react scheme. At only 25 years old, he's entering his prime with his best football still ahead of him. I could totally see him breaking out similarly to how Arik Armstead did in 2019 playing in Kocurek's scheme where his task is simple: defend your gap and attack.

Crushing McFloppy. This is a big ass dude going speed to hump from the edge.

I can envision Allen developing into Armstead's replacement here

Would he play more inside here?
His DL coach went to the Texans, Watt is telling him to go to the Texans, Ryans is HC with the Texans, there is no state income tax in Texas. For all those reasons and more, I expect them to be the favorites to sign him.

Points well taken - however, he'll be 27 in August, and time waits for no one.

So here's the flip side of that coin:
The only reason(s) I see a player of his calibre going to the Texans, is strictly for a payday, and tax benefits.
I'm not going to sit here and state those two things wouldn't be factors … yet, if he wants to win now, as
opposed to later (by being in a rebuild situation), then his best bet between the 2 teams would be the 49ers.

I'd also imagine he'll have other suitors for his services as well, as we approach FA.
Is he related to Jared Allen? I did notice him a ton when we played the Cards. I'd be down

Allen is exactly the kind of player we need. An interior rusher with flexibility to play outside. He's a better version of Hyder IMO

For a guy making $9m/yr, (Spotrac estimated market value) California's 12.3% income tax is a huge deal.

Plus the cost of living in Santa Clara is over 80% higher than in Houston. It puts the 49ers, with a small cap figure to deal from, at a competitive disadvantage. It isn't too difficult to imagine SF would have to pay him $1M/yr more in order to even out the tax hit.

I wanted to draft this guy myself, I thought then he was poor man's JJ. He's also a pure blue collar guy.
Solid player. Glad he's out of the division. That sack dance made me want to strangle him through the TV lol.
Happy he's in the AFC where he can terrorize Mahomes, Herbert and the rest.
