Agreed. Pretty pumped about the secondary

Same here, I can't wait to see healthy Hufanga and Brown in his second year back there.

I would be pumped about the secondary if Hufanga wasn't coming off a late season torn ACL.
Hello there
Justin Simmons would make an excellent addition to the 49ers defense. His versatility and expertise in vic fangio's system make him an excellent fit for our plan; particularly with the recent coaching changes. He could be the key to taking our secondary to the next level.

He's about to sign with the Falcons.

Retaining Huf just got easier
ATL going to be tough this year
1 year 8 million to the Falcons. Just wow. I can't believe we didn't make a move for him!
Assuming Huf is healthy where would Simmons fit in? You would have to carry 5 safeties on your 53 because none of the other 4 are getting cut. But that wouldn't even be the biggest issue. Who would you make inactive on gameday? You are not having 5 safeties active. You really want to red shirt Malik the entire season? You have to have Odum active because of how good he is on special teams and you are not sitting Huf or Brown. So that only leaves Malik.

Assuming Huf is healthy is already a big assumption. Since he's not even able to practice yet, it's just an unknown. Brown had some great plays last year, but some misses too - typical for a rookie. Odum may be great on ST, but I would never want to have to rely on him to start at Safety. And it's possible we will, until Huf is back. And then there is a 4th round unproven rookie. Mustapha had a big hit in the first preseason games, but there are still questions about his coverage. Simmons would have been the best starter for us, would have paired great with Huf, and Brown backing up both spots. I'm less concerned with who would sit, than I am from the fact we are basically one injury away from disaster here.
