UCLA9er Mock Draft

Disclaimer: I do not think that all of these guys would necessarily slide the way they did on first-pick.com, or think this is an accurate predictor of what's gonna happen on draft day. It's more about the idea of positions addressed and or the individual players/ the motivations we had in draftin them. This may not be an accurate mock but damn would I be happy if it unfolded this way lol.

Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 2: Myles Garrett, DE/OLB, Texas A&M (A+)
Round 2 Pick 4 (CHI): Taco Charlton, DE, Michigan (A-)
Round 3 Pick 2: Cooper Kupp, WR, Eastern Washington (A-)
Round 4 Pick 2: Jake Butt, TE, Michigan (B-)
Round 4 Pick 4 (CHI): Patrick Mahomes II, QB, Texas Tech (A)
Round 4 Pick 17 (WASH): Marlon Mack, RB, South Florida (A)
Round 5 Pick 2: Carlos Henderson, WR, Louisiana Tech (B-)
Round 5 Pick 17 (WASH): Davis Webb, QB, California (B)
Round 6 Pick 2: Eddie Vanderdoes, DT, UCLA (B+)
Round 6 Pick 18: Ryan Switzer, WR, North Carolina (A)
Round 7 Pick 1: Fabian Moreau, CB, UCLA (B)
Round 7 Pick 2: Levon Myers, OT, Northern Illinois (B-)

I used first-pick.com for my mock. First off I'd like to say that I think the values for this website's bigboard may be a little wacky in some respects, but it was still a cool website and I think it offers a rough idea of the possibilities on draft day.

If this were to be the direction that our front office were to go, I would hope that they would address a few other positions of need like so.

1. Sign a nose tackle.
2. Trade for Garappolo or sign a veteran qb. (I know that may change the outcome of this draft in some ways)
3. Sign another inside linebacker.

Some thoughts on the draft:

De/Olb : Myles Garrett and Taco Charlton. Can't pass on Garrett, period. Im not sold on any of our outside guys including Lynch. So I like adding Taco to our roster as well.

Qb: Webb and Maholmes. As long as we are able to get a qb that has already established himself in the league I love he idea of having these two guys in the wings as insurance. I don't know which would ultimately be the successor or if they will ever reach that level at all but I like both's potential. Kinda funny also that Webb transferred from Texas Tech because Maholmes ultimately won the starting spot, hadn't even thought about that while selecting them.

Wr/Te: Kupp, Henderson, Swittzer, and Butt.

I love this offensive hall. I want a young core of talented playmakers to be able to learn this system and grow together under shanahan.

Rb: Marlon Mack

The kid has great vision and despite his (somewhat) undersized frame will not be taken down by arm tackles. If he gets in the open field he has the speed to breakaway. Similar body type to Christian McCafferey and could potentially be used as a Kickoff returner/ punt returner considering his skill set. We know that shanny likes to have two running backs and considering hydes injury history I think this man could be a nice complement and take some of the load off of Guapo.

The Ucla guys: Vanderdoes (Dt) and Moreau (Cb)
I go to Ucla and watch a lot of ucla football, these guys both hold great value in the later rounds. Vanderdoes was absolutely demolishing Virginia last year before going down with a knee injury, he didn't seem quite as prolific this year but he has a great motor and will provide good depth. Moreau made noise at the shrine game and it makes sense. He's fundamentally sound and can be a solid contributor on special teams from day one.

Ot: Levon Meyers. Can't say I know much about the kid, but I chose him for some o-line depth.

Let me know what y'all think.

Not remotely realistic enough to critique.

What website would you use for a somewhat accuarate drafting experience? Is there one?
Don't listen to them, their mock drafts aren't any more realistic than yours and for them to think so is totally ridiculous. Come draft day everyone will be dead wrong

Btw I like Patrick Mahomes, marlon mack and Ryan switzer😎

Thanks man, appreciate that.
I've done about 500 simulations on first pick. I've traded down from #2 overall and had as many as 11 2nd round picks. We actually could use 11 starters lol. This is as realistic as any prediction. As usual our positions of need get hyped up and so those guys get overvalued a bit. This year we might have someone making quality picks though. Good job man.

I dig Mahomes, Butt, Vanderdoes, Switzer
Can't see going Garrett then Taco but we could use them both. I'd speculate Shanahan gets at least one weapon on offense out the first two.

hahah thats awesome man, you can definitely do some wild stuff on first-pick. I agree what you said about Taco after Garrett, I doubt it happens, and the more I think about it the less I like the pick haha. I was kind thinking BPA there but after the Garret pick it definitely wouldn't be a position of need anymore.
I believe Mahomes will be long gone by the 4th.

It's a fun simulator, but their value and logic isn't perfect. Mahomes pick is an example of how it's fun, but that's most likely not realistic based on current projections, skill sets, and team need. Unless he's a meth addict, he's a late 1st thru late 2nd round projection.

I think if you overlay some trades that are realistic with picks that are safe to assume will be there, you can get a more realistic mock draft.

That being said, the players you've targeted are awesome. Switzer and Mahomes will be beasts in the right system. Nice job on the player targets.

I don't think Mahomes will go in the first...that's just too high of a pick for a project qb imo he just has too much work to do..I doubt any team will spend a first round pick on a developmental qb...he might go in the second but I can also see him falling into the third or fourth rounds..he's just way too raw to go in the first

Every QB in this draft is a developmental QB. If the top 3 go in the top half of the draft, it wouldn't be unexpected for a relatively complete team with an older QB to grab Mahomes there and let him apprentice. I don't think that'll happen, but it's more likely in that scenario that a team with a early 2nd round pick jumps ahead of other QB needy teams and secures the 5th year option by trading into the bottom of the 1st.

Crazy thing about this draft is that it's equally likely that only 2 QBs go in the first round.

edit: I misspelled the word "in"

To think mahomes will be available in the 4th Rd is ridiculous

I know, its kinda like to think trubs is worth a 2 lmao.
I haven't done a mock in years, but one website I use a lot as a baseline is Walter Football 2017 Draft Prospects link: http://walterfootball.com/draft2008P.php#2016positions. I've been working with Walt for some years now WRT Niner draft picks...we don't always agree, but that's ok, his prospect listings/rankings are a very good baseline to work from. Another site I use to evaluate draft picks is NFL.com draft profiles, link: http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/tracker#dt-tabs:dt-by-position/dt-by-position-input:rb.

I use these sites as reference points...Walter's been around for some time and has a lot of resources at his disposal as well as a mock draft database that's useful to see other mocks. I'd steer clear of any sites who use some kind of formula for their picks...do the research and come up with your own picks...I think that'll be a more satisfying experience.
