Strickac's Mock v.2.11.17

Resign:
Ray-Ray Armstrong
DeJuan Harris
Jeremy Kerley
Glenn Dorsey

I'm not going to assume who we'll sign, yet here's who I think the team will/should pursue...

Top FA Targets:
1. Melvin Ingram, OLB
2. Chandler Jones, OLB
3. Brandon Williams, NT
4. Kevin Zeitler, RG
5. Pierre Garçon, WR

I expect Kyle to dip into this pool to help expedite his offensive system.

Falcons' FA Targets:
Matt Schaub, QB (depth)
Chris Chester, RG (starter)
Tom Compton, RT/RG (depth)
Levine Toilolo, TE (depth)
Patrick DiMarco, FB (starter)
Aldrick Robinson, WR (depth)

Trade:
Bears make a move for a QB and we trade a 4th for Jay Cutler. He was drafted by and went to the Pro Bowl under Mike Shannahan. Mike/Kyle fought to get him in Washington, just narrowly missing out when the Bears secured him. Kyle gets his natural passer. He has elite arm talent, but between the ears, Kyle will have some work to do. He's a talented bandaid that slows the bleeding at the QB position.

Draft:
A QB goes first and we land Myles. Kyle is comfortable with Cutler as a stopgap and decides that he'll wait to see what happens with Cousins next year. We'll just throw some darts at the board and see if anything sticks. If not, be more aggressive next year.

1.2. Myles Garrett, Edge, TAMU: Premier pass rusher that fills a huge hole on defense.

2.34. Haasan Reddick, ILB, Temple: Freak ILB that cover and rush the QB.

3.66. Isaiah Ford, WR, VA Tech: Good speed and underrated body control to make tough catches. Talented player that doesn't get much recognition.

4.102. Davis Webb, QB, Cal: Developmental prospect with great production and an NFL arm.

4.139. (Traded for Jay Cutler): As mentioned, he's a stopgap that Kyle is familiar with. The talent is there. He just needs the right coaching and system. That's where Kyle comes in.

5.147. Joe Mixon, RB Oklahoma: One of the most talented RBs in the draft, but he has baggage. He fits the ZBS perfectly though, so we take a chance.

5.162. Tanoh Kpassagnon, Edge, Villanova: Physical specimen that was also productive. Great athlete that will be groomed as a situational rusher.

6.188. Jalen Reeves-Maybin, ILB, Tenn: Drafting another athlete with a high ceiling. Depth at ILB is a must with Bowman's medical wrap sheet.

6.206 Stevie Tu'ikolovatu, NT, USC: excelled in the PAC-12 as a 350lbs plug. NT has been ignored for too long.

7.224. Jamari Staples, WR, Louisville: At 6-4 195lbs, he has NFL size and he production to back it up. Could be a steal this late in the draft.

7.225. Jake Eldrenkamp, OG, Wash: Perfect fit for a ZBS and a high character player. He was 1st team All PAC-12 and the conference's scholar athlete of the year.

I think your draft picks are really nice.

No way Tanoh last until the 5th.

Zero chance Lynch and Shanahan draft Joe Mixon after they spent an entire day reiterating they'll be drafting guys with high character and do it the "right way".

I love the Stevie Tu pick.

I wanted Mixon in there regardless of what Lynch said. You're right though, sounds like they'll avoid him for sure.

I like the idea of picking up Brandon Williams, that would make a big impact especially if Ian can't make it back.
👍👍
like it.
I like it too - I doubt a QB goes first overall, but I'd be thrilled if we get Garrett at 2. I like Reddick as well and we need a linebacker who can cover.

Tanoh Kpassagnon is ranked 127 on CBS (4th round) and looked good in senior bowl practices, so having him fall 35 spots past that seems like a bit of a stretch.

Daeshon Hall is another guy who could be a pass rush specialist who CBS has ranked 159th (I think he'll go before then, but he may be more realistic than Tanoh). He's smaller and quicker and may be a better fit as a 3-4 OLB. Hall has 35" arms, but isn't as strong against the run. Unfortunately, I think we'd have to use one of our 4th round picks to get one of them if they even last that long.

I'm not sure I can see us drafting another edge rusher after adding Melvin Ingram and Myles Garrett when we already have Aaron Lynch, but if a 4th round prospect drops to our 5th round comp pick, why not?

Love everything. But no point in signing 2 starting guards in free agency. We only need 1
I'm definitely not suggesting we'll sign all those guys, not even half. Hell, two of them would be a great haul. Those are just targets I hope we go after.

With regards to the Falcons UFA, I could see several following Kyle. Schaub, Chester, DiMarco, Robinson, and Toilolo could all be in play.
Nice mock
Very very nice. I'd be happy.
