I think instead of getting two free agents on the line, we will get a free-agent pass rusher so one on each side of the ball. That makes more sense

Like this a lot. I'm really high on J.C. Tretter too and like the idea of trading back in the first round and going edge rusher in the 2nd.
Agree with you and others that the Kirk Cousins trade and contract aren't realistic. He's going to get paid a lot more than $20 million/year and he's going to cost more than 2nd round picks to trade up for. The Redskins are probably going to slap the nonexclusive tag on him again and either get first round picks for him or use that as leverage to get him to sign a long term deal. I'm guessing they'll end up paying him more than 5 years $100 million. The 49ers would have to pay him significantly more than that to get him to join a rebuilding team.
Thanks...Kirk is obviously a best case lol. Sportrac has his market value at 4 yrs $95 million so that might be a better number.
I'll add with the trade comp, Washington is in a pickle and at what point to you have to realize there's most likely not a long term deal to be had between the two?
If they have a good idea that he just doesn't want to be there, then get some trade value for him instead of pay $24 million for one yr then lose him in FA (and get a low 3rd comp in 2019). They can try the non exclusive tag but I doubt a team throws two 1sts knowing how the current situation is.
