MBA mock draft ver 4.0 pre draft

With the initial tidal wave of free agent signings done, this is a one trade mock draft only based on NFL Draft Scout prospect rankings as of March 10th:

Trade #2 pick this year for Jets 1st rounder, 2 - 2nd rounders (this year and next) and a 5th rounder this year

Round 1 Malik Hooker 6'1" 206 lbs FS - with our new defensive system in place, Niners go for their version of Earl Thomas
Round 2a Pat Mahomes 6'2" 225 lbs QB Texas Tech - developmental QB for our future
Round 2b Tyus Bowser 6'3" 247 lbs OLB Houston - Need to fill holes in our defense at OLB; can rush and cover
Round 3 Malachi DuPree 6'2" 192 lb WR LSU - ranked anywhere between a 2nd -3rd round prospect; add to our newly revamped receiving corps
Round 4a Jaleel Johnson 6'3" 316 lbs DT Iowa - Niners need to get a run stuffer right in the middle; no change here
Round 4b Jeremy McNichols 5'9 214 lbs - RB who carry carry the load as a backup and be a reliable receiver out of the backfield
Round 5a Damontae Kazee CB 5'10" 184lbs CB San Diego State - CB to add depth
Round 5b Jon Toth 6'5" 307 lbs C Kentucky - C/OG swingman
Rouund 5c Daeshon Hall 6'5" 266 lbs DE Texas A&M - pass rusher/LEO
Round 6a Ejuan Price 5'11" 250 lbs EDGE Pittsburgh - Elvis Dumervil clone who is a little older but constantly provides pressure
Round 6b Jaylen Reeves-Maybin 6'0" 230 lbs OLB/S Tennessee - Ray Ray clone to play LB and cover on passing downs
Round 7a Jehu Chesson 6'3" 204 lbs WR Michigan - more competition at WR

Free Agents
Cole Croston 6'5" 307 lbs OT Iowa
Nathan Gerry 6'2" 218 lbs SS Nebraska
Trenton Decoud 6'2" 206 lbs CB Oregon St
Freddie Stevenson 6'0 234 lbs FB Florida State
Darrel Daniels 6'3" 247 lbs TE Washington

Your thoughts.............
Daeshon Hall will not be available in the 5th round. He was a ~4th round prospect before the combine and he's probably a 2nd-3rd round prospect after the combine.

At the combine:
Daeshon Hall: 6'5 266 4.76 40, 36" vertical, 123" broad, 7.03 3 cone, 4.38 shuttle
Aldon Smith: 6'4 263 4.78 40, 34" vertical, 118" broad, 7.19 3 cone, 4.50 shuttle

What made Smith special was his ability to use his 35 3/8" arms effectively to control blockers and bull rush. Hall doesn't quite match him in length but is close at 35".

I like the idea of targeting Mahomes with our 2nd round pick. He's high risk high reward, but if he doesn't pan out, we'll likely be in position to select another QB next year (we should have a top 10 pick again) or we may be able to bring in Kirk Cousins.
Very nice mock
You lost me at trade down with the Jets. Every mock includes this for no other reason than every other mock keeps including it.

The Jets are more likely to trade down than trade up.

If they dont get a QB in free agency, they will have to trade up to guarantee they get the QB of their choice IMO. That will also depend on what happens with the Browns and all their top picks in the next two drafts. Maybe the Pats will deal Jimmy G if the price is right.

Jets are like us/browns, they're not a qb away from competing.

Jets unloaded a lot of talent in the off season and haven't done much in FA. They've put themselves in full rebuilding mode. They're not giving up picks so they can move up when they don't have to. Not in this draft.

If you look at who the Jets released and which positions are deep in the draft you'll see why there's no way the Jets are going to give up picks to move up.

Point taken.

Without the trade, I would take Solomon Thomas and Tyus Bowser in the first two rounds. Then, get Davis Webb in the third as our developmental QB.
I dont think we go for a safety in round 1.

Ward is a good player. Not a playmaker. and we need that
I like having Ward on the roster, but having a potential franchise player that can play single high safety in the new system would be better than relying on Ward playing his third position in three years and hoping he's the right fit. This of course is dependent on Hooker passing all of his medicals.

Yes, but the point is, we have many other needs. The 1st round pick has to be spent wisely. I just dont see this as a wise pick.

When will this excuse stop? It is a poor excuse for not going after a QB. You don't pass up on your chance to obtain what you believe will be a franchise QB because you don't think you're going to compete that year. If the guy you want is available, you get him. The Colts weren't a QB away from competing when they grabbed Peyton Manning, nor were the Saints when they got Brees, nor the Falcons when they got Matt Ryan, or the Giants with Eli, etc. QB is the most important position and the toughest to fill with a franchise player, so if the Jets (or any team) feel that a guy like Trubisky is that type of guy, you get him and build around him. You don't sit around twittling your thumbs and let the guy slip away because you also have other needs. That's a Baalke-like move.

Edit: this argument is only about letting a perceived franchise QB get away because you "have other needs." The Jets may not even think any QB in this draft is good enough,so they probably won't move up to get one. That's not my point though.
