Trade: Arik Armstead - DE/DT for Titans Kevin Dodd - DE. Armstead is an ideal 5 tech in the Titans 3-4 defense, and Dodd is an ideal DE (potentially LEO) in our 4-3 under scheme. Titans aren't giving up a starter, and they are getting a starter in return. Plus, they have 2 draft picks in the first round to snag a WR (Mike Williams/Corey Davis) and another LB as Dodd's replacement (Charles Harris).
NFL Draft:
R1: Solomon Thomas - DE - Stanford | He's rising up boards, but I think many people are just late noticing what his true value has always been at the conclusion of the season. Thomas may not project best at the LEO spot, but he sure as hell can play opposite of the LEO spot in our 4-3 under scheme. He's strong, athletic, and plays the run and pass effectively. Blue collar guy that we've been lacking ever since Justin Smith retired.
49ers trade 2nd for Saints 2nd and 3rd (NE comp pick). Saints trade up to select Jarrad Davis - LB - Florida.
R2: Kevin King - CB - Washington (via NO) | Big athletic corner that's perfect for the 4-3 with press man coverage schemes. King is 6-3 with a 4.4 that has played many positions on the field. King and Robinson on the outside with Ward/Reid as the duo safeties. Lots of good young development to be had in 2017.
R3: Nate Peterman - QB - Pitt | The pick makes a whole lot of sense for both parties. Peterman's skill set is a natural fit for a west coast offense, and Peterman's pro experience and tangibles makes him an ideal Shanahan development QB.
R3: Amara Darboh - WR - Michigan (via NO thru NE) | Learns the ropes behind Pierre Garcon, Darboh has very good size and speed to become a physical WR in the NFL. Compares to Mohammad Sanu, who ironically joined Shanahan and the Falcons in 2016. Not a #1, but a good contributor.
R4: Kareem Hunt - RB - Toledo | 3rd round talent with 6th round combine results, Hunt is an ideal zone scheme running back. Reminds me a lot of Alfred Morris, Hunt is not a speedster, but he's a patient runner that knows how to find holes to run through. Very good pass catcher as well.
R4: Matt Milano - LB - Boston College (comp) | Depth at the LB position, but should develop into a stout ST ace.
R5: T.J. Logan - RB - UNC | Electric back with outstanding speed to be a threat as a runner or receiver. Dangerous in a 2 back setting on screen plays.
R5: Quincy Adeboyejo - WR - Ole Miss (via WAS) | Raw, but athletic for the position. I think he projects best as a physical slot receiver.
R6: Michael Roberts - TE - Toledo | Goodbye Celek. Roberts has huge hands and a willing blocker that provides a good all-around skill set for the position.
R6: Sean Harlow - OG/C - Oregon St. (via DEN) | Projects best as a developmental interior zone blocking guard or center. Backs up Kilgore in year 1.
R7: Stevie Tu'iklolavatu - NT - USC (via CLE) | Run plugger that provides depth behind Mitchell at our NT position. Tu'iklolavatu is an older prospect, but he showcases skills that will immensely improve our run defense.
