Yay Area's 2017 Mock Offseason (Version 4)

This offseason is based on an idea that has been mentioned in our forums, but has now also been mentioned on ESPN. It is the idea that Cleveland would be willing to trade for the number 2 pick for a package including their number 12 pick (http://www.espn.com/blog/cleveland-browns/post/_/id/21254/intriguing-what-if-browns-trade-to-gain-drafts-top-two-picks). Specifically the package would include Cleveland's 12th pick, Cleveland's 33rd overall pick the first in the second round, Cleveland's second round pick the Browns acquired from Tennessee which is 20th pick 52nd overall, and the second-round pick in 2018 the Browns acquired from Philadelphia. As the article details that is a package worth 2,580 points and the second overall pick is worth 2,600 points.

At this point, I do not see the 49ers bringing in any additional free agents this year.

Round 1-12 (Cleveland's pick) - Derek Barnett, DE/OLB, Tennessee - Our LEO, pass rushing specialist of the future.

Round 2-1, 33 overall (Cleveland's pick) - Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan - We finally get a playmaking, number one receiver. The chances of him dropping out of the first round went up due to his ankle injury.

Round 2-2, 34 overall (own pick) - Deshone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame. Our QB of the future. With Hoyer signed, he can redshirt this year. Then the debate next year can be if we go with him or sign Cousins and continue to develop him.

Round 2-20, 52 overall (Cleveland's pick) - Ethan Pocic, OG/OC, LSU - Solid depth that we can develop behind Garnett, Beatles, and Zuttah.

Round 3-2, 66 overall (own pick) - Tyus Bowser, OLB, Houston - A explosive, playmaking outside linebacker to play next to Bowman

Round 4-2, 109 overall (own pick) - Elijah Lee, LB, Kansas State - Another explosive, playmaking linebacker to complete for playing time at ILB

Round 4-37, 143 overall (comp pick) - Jamaal Williams, RB, BYU - A powerful runner, who has surprising agility. Could make a solid 1-2 punch with Hyde

Round 5-2, 146 overall (own pick) - Jon Toth, OC/OG, Kentucky. Solid, athletic, zone blocking interior lineman. More solid depth for our offensivle line.

Round 5-17, 161 overall (Washington pick acquired in Derek Carrier trade) - John Johnson, S, Boston College - Good athleticism, good ball skills, adept at playing single high safety

Round 6-14, 198 overall (own pick) - Stevie T'uikolovatu, DT, USC - Solid nose tackle to play behind Earl Mitchell

Round 6-18, 202 overall (Denver pick acquired in Vernon Davis trade) - Storm Norton, OT, Toledo - Developmental prospect to learn behind Staley and Brown.

Round 7-1, 219 overall (Cleveland's pick acquired in Andy Lee trade) - Zach Terrell, QB, Western Michigan - Shanahan indicated that he wanted to have four QB's. Terrell is accurate and was very productive over his college career. He just doesn't measure up with his physical attributes.

Not bad, I could go with that. I really like the Barnett pick. Although I'd love it I really have a hard time seeing Davis fall that far injury or not.
Wishful thinking on the trade which is pretty much the whole premise, and Davis won't fall to 2nd over an ankle.. I prefer Mahomes over Kizer but neither are ready in 2017. If we somehow end up with the #2 Edge, #1-2 WR, top 4 QB, top Center, LB depth, a backup RB and developmental prospects at OT and NT I'll take it all day. That said I think we address the secondary earlier and potentially more often. Especially if we're to aquire all those picks.
That trade would be really nice for us
Well this would be a wild trade but I don't see money ball throwing us half their picks...I don't see Davis dropping to 33, and I want no part of kizer. I tried really hard to get on board but his tape from last yr and this yr overall was miserable.

I'll add I bet the Brown fans would have a melt down lol

Thats really hard to read dude. You need to space that out better and bold the players names would help too.

I would love Davis at 32 but I think he's gone in the Teens.
If you're going to dream, dream big. That trade would be dumb, even for the Browns and that's saying something. The only way they send away this much draft capital away is if they go for Garoppolo. There are no sure things at QB in this draft to make this work for the Browns.

If the trade DID go down, I would draft the same three positions, just in a different order:
1. C. Davis WR - we could use a big target who can run routes and that's him
2a. Tak McKinney DE - our new designated pass rusher
2b. Davis Webb QB - know that this isn't the most popular choice at QB, but I would rather have him than Kizer any day.
And then:
2c. Jarrad Davis LB - need a thumper in the run game.

And I think this will be the reason theyou would do it. Trade for #2 to trade it for JG. Last I heard NE wants a top 5 pick for him

Regarding the secondary, I just don't think it is that big of a need currently. Baalke added lots of corners and a few safeties in recent drafts that need to develop and get more playing time so that they can be adequately judged. I can understand possibly taking a safety like Malik Hooker, Jamal Adams, or Obi Melifonwu in the first or second round. But I feel like we have bigger needs. Just curious, what makes you feel that the secondary needs to be addressed earlier and more often?

That would be the only way a trade like this makes sense. A Sonny Weaver Jr. special. Good point, krizay.

Like it!
That is a solid roster! tons of depth on defense.

not a fan of kizer, but i guess a second round pick is worth the risk
Great Mock I'm glad we still got a pass rusher but I doubt he lasts until the 12th pick
