Mock with trade down to #8

We complete the trade with Carolina. We send #2 overall for #8, there 2nd from NE #64, their 4th #115 and their 2018 4th

8 Rueben Foster Mike/Will- Have we seen the last of Bowman? If not LB returns as a team strength. If so here's his replacement

34 Tak McKinley SAM- This draft is loaded and someone we expect to be gone will be there at 34.... He's not long enough to play Leo in my opinion but he is a prototype to play Sam for us.

64 Marcus Williams FS- The FS is as important as anynin our new scheme. That said Hooker at 2 just scares me. This pick allows Ward to stay at Outside CB and play the slot. Williams can start day 1.

66 Chris Godwin zWR- At what point does drafting a WR make sense from a value standpoint yet be a talented enough player to be more then a 4th or 5th WR. It came down to Godwin or Smith-Shuster. Went with Godwin because he's faster 4.41 40 and more likely available at this slot. Same size at 6'1 and 210 vs 215. Highly productive 3 year starter. Becomes our starting zWR by end of year 1 if not week 1. If you haven't watched the Rose Bowl yet do so.

109 Nathan Peterman QB- Where do we pull trigger on QB. In this scenario we passed on everyone at 8. Chose not to trade up for Mahomes from 34 and he was gone. Didn't feel anyone available was worth 64 or 66. Peterman was considered there and still on the board here.

115 Samaje Perine RB- the first of 2 RB's selected. Very similar to Hyde in size and an ideal 1 cut RB. Can do it all and will split carries from day 1. Able to be feature guy if/Hyde gets hurt again.

143 Julie'n Davenport OT- Zuttah at Center really made this unit better immediately on paper. After hitting some higher priorities we start to add some depth here. Small school guy who'll need time to adjust. Big upside

146 DeAngelo Brown 3t/1t- One of my favorite later round prospects. Strongest guy in NCAA. 40 at 225. Can play nose and even 3t. Rotational DT immediately

161 Jermaine Eluemunor OG- Another developmental guy. We need 5-6 guys on our 90. I see us drafting 2

198 Aaron Jones RB- double down on RB. Love Hyde when healthy. Beyond that I'm not sure we have legit NFL backups on our roster right now. If Hyde can't stay healthy we let him leave next offseason. Jones has been linked to us. He'd compliment Hyde/Perine well and now we have a formidable committee for Shanahan and coach Turner.

202 Jeremy Clark CB- this a huge guess. Clark is 6'3, 220 and excels in Press man. Consumes receivers at the line. He's been nicked up and expected to be available late. Ideal for new scheme. Late round steal potential. While our depth at CB is good now we have 3 that will be free agents next offseason. I expect us to draft one at some point early or late depending on free safety.

219 Charles Walker 3t- We avoided the trio of run stuffers in free agency. Here we grab another young body to rotate in the trenches. Has earlier round talent but lack of starts and a falling out with coaches pushes him down.

So we traded 2 for Foster, Williams, Perine and next years 4th. That would be a huge win for a talent depleted roster. 2 immediate starters and an RB2 which is almost a starter. Nowhere did a Leo present itself. So we enter camp with Lynch, Brooks. Again I have Tak starting at Sam.

2018 priorities
QB? Cousins?
Leo, SS, OL, TE, CB

So many ways we can go my emphasis was to take day 1 starters early and draft depth for the trenches later while also taking some guys that can contribute early. The new schemes were solidified here while not every hole can be filled in 1 draft. For the record my pick at 2 would be Soloman Thomas. Like Foster I see him as an early pro bowler but at a traditionally more valuable position. We'd still prefer a trade down and 3 or 4 for 1 usually wins.

Nice job. Like the trade back
Yes, a good mock. I don't think we will draft 2 running backs. UDFA for a second body. Other than that, perfectly possible.
I think the first picks first name is Reuben
You mean Reuben Foster. If Deshaun he could also play QB. pretty good mock. I'd rather have a different QB prospect but the rest is great. Hope McKinley is still there at 34, not sure about that.

Thank you for that correction.
I really like Deshaun Watson. I even like his chances for success under Shanahan even more. I just think year 1 new regime with a ton of holes to fill we need to nail our first few picks and a QB early is always a risk. Ask the Rams and Jacksonville. Foster at 8 just makes a ton of sense. If we were to trade down again I'd be all over Watson if available. I don't think we should trade up anywhere in this draft. Mahomes at 34 would be another pick I'd love. I think he'll be gone late 1st. After that I don't any of the QB's. But we'll take 1 somewhere. Peterman was my guy in this mock as a pro style developmental guy. Cousins still factors into our 2018 plans potentially as well. As does Gorapollo

Outside of our fans who's heard of any of our backups.... just sayin. We're a Hyde injury away from problems. Doubtful they draft 2 but I would
Good work, Like the reasoning behind the picks.
Takk McKinley isn't long enough to play LEO??? He's 6'2 with extremely long arms (34 3/4"). He would definitely play LEO for us.

Heck, if we drafted Carl Lawson, he'd probably play LEO for us too even though he has very short arms (31 1/2"). Barnett has very short arms as well (32 1/8") and may be the best LEO prospect in the draft after Garrett (and he's not athletic). If you can rush the passer off the edge, you can play LEO.

I'm on board with this mock draft. I'm on the fence about that trade - I'd like to come away with Carolina's 2nd round pick (pick 40) if we back to 8 because we'd likely be missing out on Thomas, Hooker, Adams, and Lattimore, but this trade seems reasonable in a draft this deep (Foster, Perrine, and a future 4th is about as valuable as Thomas or Hooker in my opinion). If we like Trubisky, he'll probably be there at 8 too (I don't think any QBs will be gone by then).
