theninermaniac's 2017 49ers Mock Draft

1.2--Mitch Trubisky, QB, UNC: I see too many awesome traits in Trubisky to pass on him. The arm talent, specifically accuracy, is best in class. He has a quick release, and a powerful arm to boot. He can fully read the field and go through progressions. As an added bonus, his agility in the pocket is quite amazing. He has burst and acceleration to extend plays, and makes defenses pay through rushing yards. I love the intangibles too. Fearless. Committed. Confident. He is a gun slinger.

2.2--Takkarist McKinley, OLB, UCLA: Line him up and tell him to chase the QB. His get off and motor are incredible. He has the quick twitch you want to see in a pass rusher. He is not refined at this point, but I see that as upside and room to grow. His arms are looooong (Im still shaking out the Baalke cobwebs). Overall, just a really talented LEO with great measurables and production.

TRADE: 49ers trade 3.2 + 4.2 to Dolphins for 2.22

2.22--Cordrea Tankersly, CB, Clemson: Has the size Im looking for in a CB, and plays the ball extremely well. I love his toughness. While not a burner, in the new cover 3 I think he fits great. Able to jolt WRs with his punch off the line and knock them off their route. Great in run support, and his athleticism is under-rated. I think he will be a star.

4.37--Josh Malone, WR, Tennessee: Great size (6'3) and good enough hands to give defenses fits. He has good straight line speed too. Route running needs refinement, but I see some TO in his game. I think he is flying under the radar to this point, but would give the Niners some needed size on the outside.

5.2--Adam Bisnowaty, OT, Pittsburg: Has great size (6'6, 300) and is an agile big man. He shows a little bit of a nasty streak too, with dancing bear qualities. Bisno is a beast with good strength and anchor. Kept the WZ darling Nate Peterman clean all year.

5.17--KD Cannon, WR, Baylor: Dude has a blazing start to his routes off the snap. Has good size as well (6'0). His quickness is elite. Not a natural pass catcher, but makes a ton of big plays. He will need to work on expanding his game and route tree, but he has good potential.

6.2--De'Angelo Henderson, RB, Coastal Carolina: Short, compact RB with pass catching skills. Seems to align perfectly with what Shanny asks of his RBs. Nice one-cut ability and vision with zone blocking. He runs hard between the tackles, and doesn't shy away from contact. He has a strong build, even with being only 5'7. Doesnt have blazing top end speed, but enough to bust big gains.

6.18--Zane Gonzalez, K, Arizona State: Dude holds a ton of PAC-12 records for kicking. Holds the FBS record for career makes at 96. Experienced leg.

7.1--Josh Tupou, DT, Colorado: Here is a 1-tech if there has ever been one. Tupou is a behemoth of a man, and is an immovable object. He will occupy two blockers on virtually every snap.

Understandable, for sure. Small sample size, raw, spread, etc. This would be the ultimate "trait" pick, indeed, if he's Kyle's guy.
Like it all except for giving up a pick to move up for a cb. Should still be a comparable cb early 3rd and the 4th can be used to still land a good player in a deep draft

Thanks for the comments!

I definitely understand the skepticism around Trubisky, given he is a one year starter. But looking at the tape, is there a skill that he has not put on display? He is checking every box in my analysis, and getting extra credit for a few bonus traits. But I do understand the trepidation. Very few sure thing QBs are in college. It's a leap of faith.

This too many corners to trade up for one in this draft

I respect your opinions, but I obviously feel different.

I agree there is a ton of CB talent in this draft, but moving up to get my target is worth trading up. Tankersly is tier 1 in my book, so being aggressive in landing him is no big deal to me. Would I like to have landed him at 3.2? Sure, but I didn't think he would make it there.
Not a fan of Trubisky at 2, don't want to be trading up too much, more like trading down and getting more early/early-mid round picks. I understand drafting a Kicker, but he won't beat out Gould, and he won't make it too our PS, thus we basically wasted a 6th round pick.

Agreed. I guess if absolutely have to have that guy then you go get him

Gonzalez was 16 for 16 inside 50 yards this past season, and 7 of 9 from outside of 50. Kickers are finikey, and Gould needs competition.
I'm supposed to like this draft. You have what I think is the best CB for what we want to do. You also have my favorite edge rusher in McKinley. And my favorite mid-round WR in Malone (also like Cannon) but I feel like we leave alot on the table.

No LEO/SAM,(whichever mckinley aint) Will, Mike or FS candidates.

IF we traded out of #2 and picked up atleast an extra 2nd. We could go Mahomes then use the extra 2nd on Tankersly. Keep our 3-2 for Marcus Williams and 4-2 on a WILL/MIKE.

But had you done all of that... It wouldn't be your mock. It would be my mock. So with that said.... I could live with your mock. ESPECIALLY if Mitch turns out to be legit. Which I think he can be.

Appreciate the comments.

It's going to be nearly impossible to address every hole on this roster in one draft. This rebuild is going to be a 2-3 year project.

It is nice to read that we are aligned on a number of picks. Tankersly is a name I'm circling. To me, he is a star in the making. Mckinley is a beast edge rusher, so I think he fits as a LEO.

With so much room to improve on every level, any draft pick at any position could possibly be an upgrade.
I've heard so many people talk about that Stanford game, and his picks were not good obviously, but he has some awesome traits. His pocket presence while keeping his head down field is awesome. He was under constant pressure and made some unbelievable plays...a number of them.

If he was 6'4" he would be going number 1 to the Browns no question asked.
