Garoppolo Offseason Plan and Mock Draft

Lose: Gilliam, Fusco, Kilgore, Lynch, Carradine, Coyle
Resign: Jimmy Garoppolo, Carlos Hyde, Eric Reid, Donte Johnson
FA: Trumaine Johnson, CB; Weston Richburg, C; Eric Decker, WR

Trade down twice (#2 --> #5 --> #11) in the first round to pick up two early 2nd round picks.

#11 Quenton Nelson, OG - may be as good as any OG coming out of college in 10+ years. Projecting Staley-Garnett-Richburg-Nelson-Brown as the starters.
#37 Sam Hubbard, LEO - Depends on who is better at LEO, Hubbard or Thomas. In the ideal world Hubbard beats out Thomas as your starting LEO and Thomas plays big DE and moves inside on passing downs.
#43 Jamarco Jones, OT - Looking for the future bookends at OT: Brown and Jones.
#58 D.J. Chark, WR - Along with Decker they give Garoppolo bigger targets. Chark has size but hands may be an issue. He is more of an upside guy than a can't miss.
#66 Jaylon Ferguson, DE - competes for backup at LEO and big DE.
#70 Tegray Scales, SAM - competes with Harold for the SAM role.

I resign Reid since keeping an experienced S is important given Ward's injury history. Resigning DJ now that RR was traded away to maintain depth at CB. Resigning Hyde since 49ers decide not to go after Barkley and Joe Williams is a question mark.

Not bad but I dont think Nelson will slide to #11 and if it was me I wouldn't draft a LG top 10 then make him learn tha right side Garnett would move to tha right side ...

No thanks on Decker old slow and overrated
Dont want Hyde back I hate his gain 10 or loss 10 dance around style ...
Coyle should stay as a quality backup
I know nothing about D.J. Chark but if you put he has problem hands why would you want a WR with problem hands no thanks rather have another WR ...

I'd be happy if we got Chark at 58. You aren't going to find many perfect WR prospects late in the 2nd round. Chark is 6'3 with 4.40 speed and gets separation on his routes. He's been held back statistically due to poor QB play and isn't a great jump ball receiver yet, but he's got #1 WR potential if he puts it all together.

Like the mock overall even if we're only able to trade back once to land Nelson.
If Nelson is not there at 11, one of the LEOs will be the choice (Chubb, Bradley, Key) and then grab an OG in the 2nd round. But my focus for this draft is finding the spot where Nelson probably will be available.

moving to 5 and then 11 should yield way more than just 2 high 2nds. Chances are that someone will be coming up for a QB at 2 so i would expect a second and a first for the first trade and probably a 2nd and 3rd for the second trade. the #2 and #5 are very valuable picks.

Decker i think is done. He has looked horrible for the Titans. Hardly getting open, and when he does he drops it.

I however love the T.Johnson and Weston Richburg pickups. Those are two of my top 3 FAs i am hoping we resign, along with Taylor Gabriel.

Love the Nelson pickup, he is a true mauler with a mean streak. Him and Richburg would make us a top 5 O-line.

Not a big fan of Hubbard. I like his size & motor but only 2 sacks on a very talented D is worrisome. I think he would be good piece on a defense but i would try to be targeting someone with superstar pass rushing potential.

Richburg, Nelson, and Brown would all be above average offensive linemen, but that's still not a top 5 offensive line with garbage at RG and an aging Staley at LT.

I'm not convinced we'll get much back for trading back in a draft without an elite QB, WR, LT, or edge rusher. There may not be guys available at 2 or 3 that are worth what the #2 or #3 pick is traditionally worth. No one is giving up a boatload of picks to move up 3 spots for a RB and Barkley may be the BPA at 2. The reason we want to trade back is the same reason not many teams will want to trade back. You're better off taking whoever falls between Barkley, Nelson, McGlinchey, Fitzpatrick, etc.

We have to hope 2-3 QBs emerge as franchise caliber QBs by the end of the year, but right now this draft class looks pretty weak at the top.

Like everything. Especially resigning Reid. Ward has not performed at safety. He needs to go back to corner.
I wasn't thinking of Ward back to CB since Witherspoon/TJohnson/Williams would be the CBs and DJohnson is depth. Reid is needed because the Safeties get injured regularly so it is good to have experienced depth there also. Plus Ward is in a contract year next year.

I like the theory behind this mock, but why lose Carradine? He played well this year when healthy and at worse, seems like decent depth..

What's your solution to hyde? I don't see anybody on the current roster as good as him and it's not even close. We have a lot of possibilities between our active roster and our practice squad. But those are just possibilities

Yes you're right about Ward but he is our worst safety
