Resign: Hyde (RB), Garoppolo (QB), Coyle (LB), Reid (S), Hall (CB), Douzable (DE), Fusco (OG)

Cut: Armstrong, Beadles, Harold, Tomlinson, Ward

Free Agency:

Offense: Jensen - C - Ravens; Robinson - WR - Jaguars; Gabriel - WR - Falcons; Fulton - C/G/T - Chiefs; Morris - RB - Cowboys

Defense: Johnson - CB - Rams; Smith - DE - Bengals; Davis - LB - Broncos; Colvin - CB - Jaguars

NFL Draft:

49ers trade #2 overall and 2nd (via NO) round picks for Giants #3, 2nd, 3rd, and 2019 3rd round draft picks. Giants trade up to secure Darnold - QB.

49ers trade #3 and 5th round pick (via NYJ) for Colts #5 and 2nd round pick. Colts trade up, leapfrogging Bucs, to select Barkley.

R1: Quenton Nelson - LG - Notre Dame (via IND) | Blue chip left guard that immediately replaces Tomlinson as the starter. Generational talent.

R2: Uchenna Nwosu - SAM - USC (via NYG) | Day 1 starter at SAM. Nwosu is having a breakout year, and could go earlier than this spot.

R2: Clelin Farrell - LEO - Clemson (via IND) | He's got the trio of skills you look for in a LEO - size, speed, power. He'll be a beast.

R3: JaMarco Jones - OT - Ohio St | Swing tackle that will potentially be Staley's successor at LT.

R3: Josey Jewell - LB - Iowa (via NYG) | Competition at Mike with Coyle for the starting job.

R3: Mike Gesicki - TE - Penn St. (via CHI) | Competes with Kittle for the starting TE job for Shanahan. Gesicki is a big upgrade to Celek.

R4: Van Smith - S - Clemson (via PIT) | Depth at both FS and SS. Tartt starts at FS, but Smith rotates on the field in sub-packages.

Nice mock
So we're paying LB Smith big money to be a back up

No to resigning Hyde (RB),Hall (CB), Douzable (DE), Fusco (OG)

Resign Reid...

Keep Tomlinson he's on his rookie deal and light yrs better then Fusco...

Love going after tha best center in FA and drafting tha best OG...

Love tha trade backs but think maybe we could go back as far as 8th pick ...

We have to many hole to spend 3 high draft picks on LB and paying Smith big money to be a back up ...
Rather see us go OG,LEO,WR,future left tackle

A few thoughts:

- Hyde would be a top 10 runner in the NFL if we actually had an O-line that can open up holes. He's playing with heart and soul, and he's damn good. Yes, we sign him for a mutually beneficial deal.

- The rest of the resignings are depth signings with cheap contracts.

- Tomlinson sucks. Upgrade to Beadles? Yes. You are right that we'll most likely retain him, especially giving up a 2019 5th round pick for him. Hopefully, he can get stronger in the off-season. I would love for him to see time at C as well to provide some flex.

- I don't think we would have given Malcolm Smith that big of a contract knowing what we know now. With the amount of LBs we rotate in our scheme, Smith will see PLENTY of snaps on D. And we have the cap room...so not sure I understand the big deal here...
With all those picks you should draft at least 1 offensive playmaker
Good mock. A lot of free agents though and I think the 49ers will have trouble attracting them. Plus there is uncertainty about whether the cap goes up in the future with the ratings decline so they might not be willing to overpay to get guys to come to SF. The Trump tax plan also make higher tax states that much less attractive. I think Lynch will be more likely to target 2-3 over market contracts to get key players in (Garoppolo, Trumaine Johnson and a C/OG) but otherwise not spend too much in free agency.

Why does everyone want to resign Reid?

Because he's a fine box safety, there are no replacements better than him currently scheduled for FA, there are bigger needs to fill with your early draft picks, and it's unlikely you find an upgrade in the back of the draft (you certainly don't bet the position group on it.) I'd personally keep Tartt at SS instead, but this mock has him at FS

Great explanation. If we want to upgrade from Reid (or our safeties in general) and assuming our 2018 draft picks work out, you look for those players in 2019. Right now, the focus should be on bringing in guys to push the bad players off our team or mediocre players down the depth chart (interior O-line, WR) and filling out positions that we need in order for this team to be competitive (edge rusher). You could also add bringing in a tackle to develop. All of the above trumps the need to replace any of our safeties. My main concern with them is the injury history, not the play itself compared to other positions.
It will be interesting to see where the investment takes place next year. OL looks pretty ragged, but you have to admit that the receiving core (outside of Hyde and Garcon) has had stone hands. Improvement in either or, would be a huge plus. The same goes for the pass rush and the secondary.

There are guys out there to improve the OL, but ER's and CB's are going to be hard to come by.
Like oline moves, the TEs still look thin
Keep Reid move back to Free Safety and put Tartt at SS Colbert great find acknowledge up both sports and move ward to CB.

I agree trade down get a lot of picks. Draft Nelson, De pass rusher someone to turn the corner 6ft 3 in 255-270lbs.we have enough run stuffers at de.someone to make qb move up in pocket for buckner, thomas, armstead to sack
Get rid of all guards and centers except garnett and magusum.
Like this plan a lot. Good signings in free agency balanced with a solid draft. Hits all the areas of need (OL, CB, WR and OLB/pass rush). Well done!
