MBA mock draft ver 1.0

With the Niners on a 2 game win streak and currently holding the #4 pick plus there are 13 teams with a need to get a new QB, the Niners will likely trade down a few spots and recoup their early 2nd round pick that they gave up for Jimmy G. For this mock, the NY Jets give up their 2017 #11 pick and their 2017 # 42 pick in the second round plus a 2018 3rd Round pick to move up to the #4 pick.

Used NFL Draft Scout.com for the prospect rankings.

Round 1 Pick 11 Roquan Smith ILB Georgia - like what Phoenix is thinking; our new Willis/Bowman combo next to Foster.
Round 2 Pick 42 Josh Jackson CB Iowa - top cover CB to send Dontae Johnson back to the bench
Round 2 Pick 56 from New Orleans Martez Ivey OG Florida - need a new internal trio to keep Jimmy G upright
Round 3 Pick 68 Ronald Jones RB Southern Cal - new running mate or replacement for Carlos Hyde depending on how free agency turns out
Round 3 Pick 69 Allen Lazard WR Iowa State - big red zone target to supplement Garcon and Goodwin.
Round 4 Pick 128 from Pittsburgh Marcus Davenport OLB UT San Antonio - small school outside pass rusher with some speed and upside
Round 5 Pick 138 Wyatt Teller OG VA Tech - part of new interior OL
Round 6 Pick 163 Dalton Schultz TE Stanford - new 3rd TE to take over for Logan Paulsen.
Round 7 Pick 196 Andrew Brown DE Virginia - this year's Malik McDowell; talented but inconsistent. Potential PS player
Round 7 Pick 214 Greg Stroman CB VA Tech - CB/KR All ACC performer

Free agency: I expect the Niners to pursue the following free agents

OL Ryan Jensen C, Andrew Norwell OG, Josh Kline OG, Justin Pugh OG
CB Trumaine Johnson, Prince Amukamura
WR Davante Adams, Allen Robinson, Sammy Watkins, Taylor Gabriel
DL Star Lotuleilei DT, Ziggy Ansah DE
OLB Jerry Attaochu

Don't have any clue who they will get at this point. Who they resign and who they get in free agency will definitely have an effect on the draft. Your thoughts.........

Hopkins is not available. Edelman/Amendola we have our version in Trent Taylor
I'd rather stay at #4 than move all the way to 11.

The only way I'm trading down is if we get a 2019 1st round pick.

That's a valid point, but who would you take at #4? Would really be interested in who you'd take.

I would take a trade only if I felt that there were players in the second or third round that were equivalent of many in the first round. If not I would take either the top rated guard, tackle, cb, or Leo available. Obviously what players acquire in the free agency will dictate who we specifically select. Shanalynch will determine whom they will need but it is clear that we need online help and pass rush.
We actually hold the #3 spot

That's incorrect.

Hmm. I just keep reading we are #3 and we are #4. I'll just have to wait at the end of the season and see what draft pick we are

Or you can admit that you're wrong and that we're projected to have the #4 pick right now, because the tiebreaker for draft picks is based off full season SOS (if both teams lose out, we're going to pick after the Colts unless our SOS gets a lot worse and theirs gets better). At the very least, you could stop trying to correct people when you don't know what you're talking about.

I can't get with the 1st pick. if we didnt have malcom smith, maybe. Im not saying smith is better, I am saying that is not even a need or close to one. and ronald jones is not a decent replacement for hyde. it would be a downgrade.

You need to watch more college football and scout more prospects before you critique all these draft threads. People are suggesting straight studs in FA and Draft and you're saying they aren't play makers. Apparently, if they aren't on Mel Kipers top 10 board, or a top 3 at their position in FA, they aren't an upgrade.

All players drafted can bust, but there is absolutely ZERO reason to think Jones would be a downgrade from Hyde.

That would be a slam dunk draft - however, NFL Draft Scout's current rankings isn't really reflective of what will likely happen on draft day. Jackson is most likely going to be a top 20 pick, Jones is a 2nd rounder, Davenport is a 2nd/3rd rounder, and Teller is now a 3rd/4th rounder. They will update their boards once we get to the off-season, and they updated it again after the combine.

I love the players you are targeting, and they'd be fantastic additions...but I don't see it plausible to pick these guys that late in the draft when their game tape and production dictates otherwise.

The more I review other sites, I think you made be right. This is version 1.0 and a lot of things will change with the onset of free agency, the Combine, the Senior Bowl, and how the Niners finish the season. I usually use the CBS Sports.com ratings, but they only have ratings for the top 100 players. At least I have the right targets in mind. More to come for sure.
