Justin's Jimmy "The Savior" Mock

Steve Young said it and i agree, we have a chance to go from worst to first given our draft picks and cap space. I predict Lynch will be aggressive in getting the running game on track, protecting Jimmy, and getting to the QB. JimmyG is a guy who makes OWs so we should focus on giving him time and setting up a run game that will help the passing game.

Another important thing about a contending team is depth. We got to make sure we have versatile players who can slide into other positions when injuries inevitably start stacking up.

Resign:
-QB Jimmy Garappolo (6 years $150M, $60M guaranteed)- First things first...lock up Franchise Jimmy!
-G Brandon Fusco 1year (vet minimum): Valuable backup
-LB Brock Coyle 1year ($1.5M): Valuable backup and STer
-DE Cassius Marsh (1 year $2M): Valuable backup and STer
-RB Raheem Mosert (1 year vet minimum)
-T Gary Gilliam (1 year vet minimum)

Notable Cuts:
-G Zane Beadles:
-WR Aldrick Robinson
-SAM Pita Taumoepena
-G Erik Magnuson

FA:
-LEO Demarcus Lawrence (5 years $90M, $40 guaranteed) Been skeptical he will make it to FA but it looks like Cowboys will be cash strapped next year and they drafted Charlton last year in the first. So it looks like he could be testing the waters. Im a little wary of his suspensions but its easy to overlook that with how good he plays.
-C Ryan Jensen (4 years $32M, $15M guaranteed) Smart athletic center.
-CB Aaron Colvin (4 years $40M, $18M guaranteed)- Strong CB overshadowed by the best CB duo in the league.
-TE Niles Paul (2 years $5M, $1.5M guaranteed)- TE Depth

Some of the draftees may seem a little out of reach but we may be able to trade back from our spot and still get Landry while accumulating more picks. So just imagine we used those picks to jump up and get those guys

Draft:
1st round: DE/SAM Harold Landry BC
-Fast and strong. Athletic enough to play SAM and will slide in at DE on passing downs.
2nd round: RB Rashaad Penny SDSU
-Has the speed to hit the hole and make sure no one catches him from behind. Also he has the size and bulk to run between the tackles and get 20 carries a game. He will assume the primary back role with Breida/Williams sprinkled in.
3rd round: OG/OT Mitch Hyatt CLEMSON
-Will slide in at LG next to Staley and possibly be his heir when he is ready to hang his hat. Perfect for our scheme.
3rd round: WR Simmie Cobbs UI
-Expecting him to go earlier, in which case i would go with Dante Pettis, but for now lets assume he makes it to the 3rd. Great hands, speed, and especially size. Wins 50/50 battles with great hands and body control.
4th round: G/C Ross Piersbacher ALA
-Will play a backup role to all interior lineman spots, most importantly Center, and could potentially be a starter in the future.
6th round: CB Kevin Tolliver LSU
-Big press corner to develop
7th round: CB Tony Brown ALA
-Will be a menace as a STer and reminds me alot of Adrian Colbert. Has all the intangibles but takes too many risks. Needs some good ole coaching
7th round: WLB Shaqueem Griffin UCF
-Drops due to his limitations of missing a hand but if he did have both his hands, he would be 2nd rounder at worst. He is elite in coverage but suffers big time in tackling but still manages to make plays in run support. He will backup Malcolm and serve as a STer for 2018. I think he could be steal.

Marsh is under contract...

Nice job and thanks for giving us a lil somen further to think about!

Gotta strike when the irons hot... Its f**king getting there thats for sure. Strap up ladies and gents!
~240 million over the next 4 years for 4 players (Jimmy G, Lawrence, Jensen, and Colvin) seems a little unrealistic, but I like Lawrence and Jensen. We have $60-65MM of cap space we can roll over into 2018 currently, but that's only the equivalent of 1-2 players over 3-4 years or 40% of Jimmy's long term deal.

If we sign Jimmy G to a $150MM deal, you're going to have to temper your expectations for the rest of free agency a little. If we had gone 1-15 and drafted Rosen/Darnold, then sure, we could have brought in 5-6 high priced free agents because we'd be saving a boatload of money on the QB position.

Even if all this occured wed still have 45 -50 mill give or take after signing future rookie class as well.

Works for me.
You'd probably have to use your 2nd rd on Cobbs, but Penny should be there in the 3rd anyway.

Minus whatever it costs to resign Eric Reid or bring in a free agent safety, because there are no safeties in this mock draft. We'd also be rolling with a rookie 3rd round pick and Josh Garnett at OG. I can see us biting into that $60-65 mill of cap space we've saved up, but ideally some of it would last for at least 3-4 years so we can use more than the annual cap room when we're a playoff contender.

We got Colbert and Ward. Tartt and Chancellor James.

you know what i thought he was too. I was using overcap to do this and Marsh was listed as a FA.

yeah it was hard to project where those 2 will go. they both could go anywhere in the 2nd and 3rd as of now. I really hope we could come away with both tho. Definitely both are in my top 5 draft crush list

If Colbert goes down, Ward moves from CB to FS. And Tony Brown is a very similar player to Colbert. Great physical tools but just needs to clean up his tackling and reading plays. He would be the 3rd in line.

For SS, i couldnt settle on a backup player so i left it open to a bargain free agent or a UDFA. I think Chancellor James is definitely someone who will come into camp and get that shot. Reid could cost too much but we will see how that anthem protest will affect his value. If he could come in at a bargain, i say bring him back but he is such a good player, a team will look past the anthem protest and offer him starting money.

Well you got Garnett, Hyatt(3rd rounder), Pierschbacher (4th rounder), Tomlison, and Fusco in the competition. I think at very least 1 really good player and an average one could come out of that competition. Jensen has that middle position locked up and we got 2 great tackles on the ends. I

Why are you cutting Magnuson? Young, versatile, well-coached at Michigan--and under contract. Makes no sense.
I would love this off season.

just better talent in front of him. I didnt see anything special in him.

Him and Fusco will probably battle it out but i think Fusco would be a very reliable backup.
Ronald Jones instead of Penny! 😎👍
There's is absolutely no way the cowboys let Lawrence go. At the very least he gets franchise tagged. Otherwise i think that's a solid offseason.
