Mock drafts are nice but very time consuming for me. I'll just post guys that I want in the draft here. Assuming the very low possibility that we stay at our draft positions.

Quentin Nelson - LG - Notre Dame (1R, #10, Top 5 talent)
Roquan Smith - LB - Georgia (1R, #10, Top 10 talent)
Marcus Davenport - DE - UTSA (1R, #15, Top 10 talent)
Alex Cappa - LT - Humboldt St (4R, #28 from Vance McDonald, value is about right)

Quentin Nelson - LG

Jimmy G is killing it without much time to throw. Watch the damage he can do if you give him time against a 4-5 man rush. Same goes for the run game. Give a runner like Hyde an actual hole to get going and he'll be even harder to stop. Biggest weakness on our offense: Guard. BPA in this draft talent wise: Guard. It's a match made in heaven if we steal him at #10.
Taking a guard at 10 is a disappointment to say the least.

Pass.

Dont look on it as "just" drafting a guard. Look on it as protecting Garoppolo, opening up the running game and helping the passing game.

With a FA center, of course, and a couple of lower picks at OG and OT to provide depth.
If Nelson becomes a Pro-Bowler for the next 10-12 years and cements the O-line, why would it be a disappointment?
He is not just a guard he is an elite Guard that teams have not seen coming out of College in a very long time
He has size, strength agility and is technically sound. He would be able to start on Day 1
He is my Draft Crush this year

I'm one of Nelson's biggest fans but he isn't what Shanahan looks for in his linemen.

At 6'5, 330 Nelson is bigger than the tackles Shanahan used at ATL.

Shanahan doesn't want to run smash mouth power football. He wants mobile, athletic linemen.

He wanted that, and then proceeded to trade for Laken who is anything but that. I'd like to think that Shanny can adjust to his talent too.

Great point. Laken is a bulldozer and about as mobile as a phone booth. He is 6'3, 325.

Adding Nelson at 6'5, 330 to replace Laken would be no big deal then. Especially considering Nelson is 10x better at everything.

Nelson also seems to be a Lynch type of player. A lunchpail kind of guy.

I'd love Nelson but I'm in the camp that Shanahan won't take him. Quality guards, more than most positions, can be found in the middle rounds or as low cost FA's. Shanahan teams have consistently had success with this approach.

The more I think about it, the more I think the pick will be Harold Landry or some other pure edge rusher. Our offense over the last 5 games was 12th in the league. I think we can make some small improvements via FA and be more than competent there. Greatly improving our defense is what is going to get us over the top. I think if we sign a top tier CB like Trumaine Johnson and add some pass rush in the draft, we could be very dangerous next year.

So even though our offense was not as good as the defense you want to go d again in the first round for the 3rd year in a row?

Roquan Smith
If we replace Coyle with this guy, him and Foster will shutdown that middle of the field for years to come. Go ahead and try to sit the HB under there as a dump off.
