2018 Mock Offseason 2.0

Extend
QB Jimmy Garoppolo
OT Trent Brown

Notes:
Extending Jimmy is a no brainer. He's not playing under the Franchise Tag this year. TB is a little more tenuous. He's had weight problems, but good/great tackles don't grow on trees and we should lock him up.

Resign
OT Gary Gilliam
C Daniel Kilgore
DE Cassius Marsh

Notes:
All of these guys are depth. Hopefully none of them will see many snaps.

Cut/Let Walk
RB Carlos Hyde
WR Aldrick Robinson
WR Victor Bolden Jr.
WR Kendrick Bourne
TE Cole Hikitini
OT Eric Magnuson
G Brandon Fusco
DE Aaron Lynch
DE Tank Carradine
DE Elvis Dumervil
LB Pita Taumoepenu
LB Dakota Watson
CB Dontae Johnson
CB Leon Hall
CB Greg Mabin
S Eric Reid

Notes:
Hyde isn't a great fit for Shanahan's scheme and will likely get more attractive offers elsewhere (I actually think he'll be a great fit in Seattle). Hopefully Thomas makes Carradine expendable. Dumervil is aging. Dontae Johnson is horrible. Eric Reid is too good to be Tartt's backup.

Free Agency
RB Isaiah Crowell
WR Tayler Gabriel
TE Trey Burton
G Andrew Norwell
C Weston Richburg
DL Ezekiel Ansah
CB Kyle Fuller

Notes:
If we learned anything from last year's FA class, it's that Shanahan will target "his guys". Crowell and Gabriel fit that mold. I know some people here don't want Gabriel but I think he's perfect. Rarely are WR4's part of the offensive game plan on a week to week basis but he actually would be. I don't think we need to spend big on WR. Garçon and Goodwin are adequate (maybe even above average) starting WR's. Trey Burton fits the "offensive weapon" profile, similarly to Juice and shouldn't be too expensive.

Norwell and Ansah are our big time signings. Norwell and Richburg solidify the OL. Ansah, while not elite, immediately gives us a decent outside pass rush that will actually be able to take advantage of the inside pressure Buckner generates. I think Kyle Fuller will be good value and fits what we're looking for.

Draft
1: LB Roquan Smith Georgia
2(NO): RB Sony Michel Georgia
3(CHI): WR Auden Tate Florida St
3: CB Carlton Davis Auburn
4(PIT): DE Lorenzo Carter Georgia
5(NYJ): OLB Uchenna Nwosu USC
6: S Ed Paris LSU
7: CB Deion Harris North Dakota
7(KC): OT Zachery Crabtree Oklahoma St

Notes:
Roquan is simply BPA and will immediately improve our run defense. Him and Foster will be all over the field ala Willis and Bowman. I love Michel and Tate as high upside prospects. However, there's a chance that neither of them last to those picks. Davis provides depth at corner and could push Witherspoon or Fuller for a starting spot as soon as this season.

Nice job, really appreciate all the work you clearly put in to this. I'm not sure we go that heavy in Free Agency though. You mentioned Richburg and Ansah were the big time signings but Norwell will be the most expensive when it's all said and done. Nice job on the draft, if we sign Crowell I think Michel would be a bit overkill at RB. I would do one or the other but not both.

Overall really nice job and the team would be very competitive no doubt.
I like it but I can't see us spending that much money. You never know but each of Norwell, Ziggy and Fuller will command 10+ mil deals IMO. Westburg, Crowell, Burton and Gabriel will probably get deals in the 5 mil range.

So you have us spending roughly +/- 50 million. Add in +/- 25 mil to Garappolo and guys who may be extended and get nice raises like Trent Brown, Marquise Goodwin and Robbie Could and I just can't see us spending that much.

I think we go after 2 high profile free agents in the 10+ mil range (Guard and Pass rusher) and then a few mid tiered guys in the 5 mil range. (CB)

Every year fans think we will Sign all these players. Last year we gave Garcon a big deal and Juice a 2nd tier contract and signed a bunch of guys to fill out the roster.

This year I think we look to add a few difference makers but signing that many may be un-realistic.
I love the signing of Kyle Fuller. I love the drafting of Roquan Smith. I dislike letting Eric Reid walk. Not bad!
Why in the world would you cut a young inexpensive player who has shown he can compete? I am speaking of Kendrick Bourne. It just makes no sense to walk away from guys like this and also guys like Magnuson or Hikutini until you can get a couple of seasons of them at bargain prices.

Oh wow, I somehow overlooked that. I totally agree. Kendrick Bourne can be a stud IMO!
I don't see dumping Bourne and I hope we keep Fusco for depth. With regards to the draft, I'm all about getting Roquan; however, Michel is most likely long gone by our 2nd round pick.

Didn't mean to write Richburg - I don't expect him to command much given his injury history. Norwell would be the most expensive player of the bunch in all likelihood.

You really think Fuller will be that expensive? He'll likely be the #3 FA corner with the most desperate teams pursuing Johnson and Butler. I wouldn't spend $10m on him unless it's a one year prove it deal (which I think he might do given his lack of production before last season). Keep in mind that the Bears declined his 5th year option. He was one of the worst CB's in the NFL two years ago (2nd in the league in yards allowed per coverage snap). I find it hard to believe that someone is going to dish out a massive contract for one year of production.

I think this FA crop will be in the $40-50m range, however. Add $25m for Jimmy (Trent Brown's extension wouldn't be on the books until next year). Add another $12m for the draft class and we use $77-87m in cap space meaning we'll have $28-38m to roll over next year. That rollover space alone would put us around 13-17th in cap space heading into next year. And that's not counting the actual space we will have. Also keep in mind that Jimmie Ward and, likely, Malcom Smith will be off the books in 2019 when the Brown contract kicks in.

We're miles apart on Kendrick Bourne. Keep in mind he was behind Aldrick Robinson before Robinson got hurt (Robinson still almost doubled his snap count throughout the year)...Jimmy G played extraordinarily well and Bourne was the WR2 by circumstance. I didn't see anything to suggest that he's going to factor into our plans long term. Would it shock me if he snuck onto the roster as our WR5 or WR6? No. But it would shock me if we put ourselves in a position where he would have to see a meaningful amount of snaps again. I think we'll add a low end WR for depth and another in the draft. That's going to make it really tough for him to make the roster.
Wow that team is so freaking stacked. Really busy in FA though. Looks like we would be blowing most of our cap space
Why in the s**t is Zane Beadles still on the team?

Crowell? Why? over the cap is saying he's gonna command like $6.5 million a yr, f**k no especially when you have us getting mitchel (who's will not be there at 58).

Burton I like but he's gonna get at minimum what Gresham got (4 yrs $28 million) our TEs are fine unless you're cutting celek.

Norwell is gonna be he highest paid OG in the league this yr and imo he's not an ideal fit for the system. I can't see kyle/lynch spending for him.

Love the Ziggy and Fuller pickups, IMO I hope this is who we spend big bucks on. I like Richburg, he's still gonna get paid regardless of injuries. At this point if we can't get Jensen, I'm fine with bringing back Kilgore cheap and drafting a center.

Like the guys you targeted in the draft, you touched on it but I don't see any way how mitchel or Davis are available where you have us getting them.

Thanks for the mock a ton can change!

Hyde is better than crowell. He is the product of a great oline. So I think our rb's take a step down in this scenario. I also think replacing Reid with ward in a safety rotation is a big mistake too. Reid is a solid safety, probably top ten top 15 guy. Ward is no where near that. Yes two different positions, but ones good ones not

Our line is the difference between a playoff team or not with this draft. Kilgore would degrade the line, like always
