1 Trade Mock

As a niner fan I wish we could sign every player available, but there's going to be so many fans disappointed this season from what I can see. There's no way that with Jimmy contract looming were signing so many free agents. Every mock has us signing 3 or 4 of the top free agents. That's not happening people. For example, if we sign Fuller, no way their signing ansah & Panthers guard. This isn't Madden.

Mitchell is on the wrong side of 30 and he was clearly the weakest link on our DL last year.

He actually played better as the season rolled on. DJ Jones did some good things when he played same with Day. Just don't see it happening man.

Agree. Mitchell played well, as did DJ Jones. That is the major reason the run defense improved from bottom of the NFL to the middle. Mitchell will be 31 next September, hardly over the hill for a DL unless he has suffered a serious, debilitating injury. Of course, they can always use great players but to say they have nothing or guys who can't fill the bill is wrong.

I don't see why not. We have cap room from 2017 that won't be able to roll over through next season. The Jaguars signed 3 high profile players in FA last season and it took them to the next level, from being a 3-13 team to playing in the AFC Championship game. C.Campbell, A.J Bouye, and B.Church made a big difference and we can go the same path by signing 3 or 4 players that'll make a difference for us next season. Im not saying to spend big just to spend, but if we can come up with E.Ansah, K.Fuller, and R.Jensen which is very possible IMO, it'll fill 3 big holes on our team and we would still have enough room for Jimmy GQ's contract and to build around him. Lynch said we're going to be aggressive in FA, so signing these players that fit our scheme is realistic, not only in Madden.

Yes, I agree he played better towards the end of the season. But, he's not a difference maker. Teams are doubling Buckner instead of Mitchell, a NT should be taking on double teams majority of the time but instead they double our DT. Vita Vea is a difference maker and would free up Buckner, Thomas, AA, Ziggy(hopefully we sign him in FA), and the rest of our DL and our LBs to run around and make plays. Teams can't double both Buckner and Vea every play. Vea alone by himself sometimes takes on 3 blockers. This dude is explosive for a 6'5, 340 lb guy. He's very rare and we shouldn't pass on him IMHO..
This what happens if you don't double team him.

Vita is a beast, but we have other areas of greater need when we select....if we end up with him i'd be excited but I think we're going a different direction

Generally, teams double the best defender or the position of attack. Buckner is so good they had to double him and Armstead also was doubled much of the time. That's why Mitchell often pushed the center back behind the LOS. I'm never opposed to an upgrade but there are so many greater needs it's hard to hone in on NT, a position on the field half the time.

I don't understand how people can say Mitchell played well then say Kilgore was awful.

Am I missing something?
People just needs to understand that we are on full rebuilding mode. We are not one player away from winning SBs. We have a lot of holes to fill and we can't fill it all in one year. The most important thing is we now have a FQB and should free us up in FA/Draft. So even if we have a decent player currently at a certain position thats not a major need, we should still address it if an elite player or a one in a decade player comes around. It will bode well for us in the future. In this case, I really believe that Nelson and Vea are very rare elite players that comes around once in a great while and we shouldn't pass on them. IMHO..

Just last season a lot of people in here were hoping that we'll sign either B.Williams, D.Poe, or J.Hankins. Even after we signed Mitchell, people were still hoping for us to sign either D.Poe or J.Hankins after B.Williams was off the market. Vea is more explosive and more dominant coming out of college than any of these guys. One of the posters posted something on a different thread that makes a lot of sense to me. These guys are getting expensive and we have to draft them nowadays. Btw, Vea is a 3 down NT, he doesn't have to come out on passing downs for the 100th time...

I'd agree with you if this was last year at this time.. But not this year at this moment so I wouldn't agree to full rebuild and were solid at DT spots.. We need a pass rusher and a CB first.

I have not said Kilgore is awful...so dunno. But they are similar in ability with Kilgore missing more games, and having less competent players next to him.
