MBA post Senior Bowl mock 3.0 (one trade)

After a great season ending run and the Senior Bowl, here is my revised mock based on CBS Sports.com prospect rankings:

One trade Niners trade their #9 or #10 pick to the Arizona Cardinals for their #14 and their #47 pick this year. Understand it's a long shot, but the Cards will need to find a long term solution at QB, get younger and someone could fall to our spot that they covet.

Round 1 Pick 14 Joshua Jackson CB Iowa - it's either him or Ward, but Jackson fits the physical profile better than Ward
Round 2 Pick 47 Braden Smith OG Auburn - better fit for our ZBS than Nelson would have been; can also play tackle
Round 2 Pick 59 from New Orleans James Daniels C Iowa - new pivot to solidify our OL
Round 3 Pick 70 Deon Cain WR Clemson - need to add some skill position talent on the outside
Round 3 Pick 74 Quentin Meeks CB Stanford - another add to our young secondary
Round 4 Pick 132 from Pittsburgh - Rashaad Penny RB San Diego St. - either a replacement for Hyde or a new running mate
Round 5 Pick 145 Adam Brenemann TE UMass - TE competition for Paulsen and Hikutini
Round 6 Pick 188 Tyquan Lewis EDGE Ohio St. - Need a pass rusher without a doubt; good value late
Round 7 Pick 228 Desmond Harrison OT West Georgie - Developmental swing tackle; Bay Area kid
Round 7 Pick 245 Jack Cichy LB Wisconsin - Coming off injury but was good prior to injury; potential PS player

Free agency: I expect the Niners to pursue the following free agents (if they are available)

OL Ryan Jensen C, Andrew Norwell OG, Josh Kline OG, Justin Pugh OG, Weston Richburg C, Matt Paradis C
CB Trumaine Johnson, Prince Amukamura, Malcolm Butler and Pierre Desir
WR Allen Robinson, Sammy Watkins, Taylor Gabriel
DL Star Lotuleilei DT, Justin Ellis DT, Ziggy Ansah DE
OLB Jerry Attaochu, OLB Trent Murphy

Re-Sign
Garoppolo, Reid, Coyle, Marsh, Fusco, Kilgore

Release or Signing Elsewhere
Hyde - goes for big money elsewhere; could be the Lions
Beadles

Retain
Ward
Garnett

Love it. Fantastic draft. Absolutely love it.

- You added 2 corners who are ideal for our scheme.

- You added two versatile linemen perfect for out scheme

- Added a young, talented receiver

- A starting calibre RB

- A nice all around TE

- Lewis, Harrison and Cichy are great development prospects.

This is one of the better drafts I've seen but my one critique is we would have to add a pass rusher in free agency and a veteran back capable of starting. Ziggy and Crowell would be perfect and this draft would set us up for a long time.

Like the guys you went after. Only guy I'm not really high on is Cain.

Not sure Lewis makes it to the 6th.

Corner should be handled in fa. We need someone to mentor spoon. My only issue better players availiable there.

I get your point about Lewis, but the rankings do have him as a day 3 selection. I tried to avoid any other obvious players who's rankings were out of whack. Thanks for the feedback.

I think penny is a downgrade
Would like to see a pass rusher drafted.

Better late than never, but I took Tyquan Lewis in the 6th.
Nice

He hasn't proven anything. I used to be down on Hyde, but he finally finished one season. And with a decent line I wouldn't have been surprised if he got 1200 yards. We have all seen Carlos have huge games. He just learned a new offense he still the best back on our team, and he just finished the season healthy probably because he dropped some weight. If it's not a guaranteed to be better like Dion Lewis I don't think it's worth it when we have momentum and have a chance to make the playoffs

Don't blame the Oline for Carlos' inability to stay healthy or be consitent.

The holes were there and we were one of the best teams blocking on inside runs which you would think would suit Carlos' skill set but he still struggled. A back just can't lower his head and run full blast into the line and hope he powers through. This isn't Ohio State. He has literally no patience or awareness and lacks the vision to be a back in an outside zone scheme.

There is a reason why Breida looked better than Hyde and it wasn't because the line blocked better for him.
The outside zone is a pretty basic scheme. Stretch runs and the back needs to pick which lane to take based on the tackle or guards positioning on the blocker. It's a split second decision and Hyde cannot process that.

That's why it's essential to have a back that had the speed and awareness to choose the correct lane. Without it defenses can stay home and the play action bootleg which is a staple in this offense won't work.

Hyde either tries to power through the line or dances behind the LOS looking for the hole and by that time it's too late. The hole is filled up and the run is gone.

So I can't blame it on the line for Carlos not being a great back. But I can give credit to 1 when it's the only reason Crowell was a good back
