Rather then go more per year, or add guaranteed money to that 5/125 I chose to add unguaranteed years that in my opinion are team friendly and put more guarantees in the first 4 years. In years 5-8 we get a QB who could easily be top 5, making 2017 market value for an above average starting QB to hit FA. Jimmy becomes the 1st 200 man. Agent gets kudos. And we still avoid going over 25 per. Rodgers, Cousins, Ryan will all surpass Stanford in my opinion. Before those happen this to me is win win. The 30 million in guarantees is essentially betting Jimmy is healthy in year 4 of the contract. Hopefully our line is solid by then. Guaranteed money really only protects from injury typically. We're not cutting him if he's hurt anyway. Are there other ways to structure of course. But jimmy isn't getting a Kap type deal and even after 7 starts I agree with that. Based on only 7 starts getting 100 is crazy. But QB numbers in general are. There are some pro's in addition to the risk.
I get what you're saying but why do we have to spice it up? Everything I've read says he wants to be here and he's got the perfect coach to help him.
I don't think we have to make him the first $200 million dollar man to get him to be the QB LT. Kirk is a totally different situation because he's gonna be a FA. Rogers is a SB winning QB that has proven he's a top 3 QB in this league for 10 years. Jimmy G isn't at that point yet.
The Derrick Carr deal makes sense imo. There's no reason to give him more guaranteed money then any QB currently. It totally f**ks the market for every team looking to extend the position...If JG gets $100 million what the hell does Rogers get??
Stafford got 92-94 so what does Rodgers get? I feel you. You're right about the 30 guarantee. I just like the thought of 8 years at 25 each. We'll end up paying more then that
