After seeing all the mocks go up lately I wanted to do one myself and see what you guys thought. Of course rankings will change and so will team needs but for now this is an offseason I'd like to see happen.
Re-Sign
QB Jimmy Garoppolo - 5 years $125 million with $75 million Guaranteed. Within 5 weeks he managed to change the entire outlook of this franchise. He and Shanahan make a perfect duo and I expect big things moving forward.
RB Carlos Hyde - 3 years $20 million. Always been a fan of Hyde and I don't believe in creating another need when Hyde can hold down the fort as the #1 RB. He has endured some god awful interior blocking his entire career, we fix that this offseason and Hyde goes to another level. Deal is structured for potential out after 2 seasons.
LB Brock Coyle - 1 year $1.5 million. Solid backup option to Foster.
DB Jimmie Ward - Contract restructured to 2 years $10 million (with potential out after 1st year). Saves $3.5 million in 2018. I would like to move Ward back to CB to get him on the field with Colbert at FS. Should Colbert have a Sophomore slump or get hurt, then Ward can always go back and play FS.
Cuts
OL Zane Beadles - Saves $3.5 million
DE Elvis Dumervil - Saves $3.75 million
Total savings (with Wards restructure) = $10.75 million
Free Agency
LG Andrew Norwell - 5 years $60 million with $30 million guaranteed. Essentially the same deal that Kelechi Osemele got from Oakland but Norwell gets a little more. Guard is a huge need for us in my opinion and Norwell is a top 5 Guard in the NFL. Norwell and Staley makes for a formidable left side of the line, Hyde and Breida will love the running lanes created for them. Also gotta protect our new Franchise QB.
OT Austin Pasztor - 1 year $1.5 million. Familiar with Shanahan's system and a good backup option to Staley and Brown.
DE (LEO) Ezekiel Ansah (if Robert Quinn gets cut I'd go for Quinn over Ansah) - 4 years $52 million with $30 million guaranteed. A lot of us have Ansah signing here and it makes a ton of sense. We have the need and money, Ansah fills the need perfectly. Not sure how much of a fit he is in Matt Patricia's defense now installed in Detroit, so he hits the open market and we pounce.
FS Deshawn Shead - 1 year $1.5 million - Shead is a former Seattle Seahawk who's played in their defense for a number of years. He can help in the development of Adrian Colbert with his knowledge of the system and provides veteran depth at safety.
SS Bradley McDougald - 2 years $4 million. McDougald is a good backup option to Tartt and comes at a much cheaper price than Reid. McDougald comes over from Seattle and has experience playing in this defense.
Trades
- Arizona Cardinals trade 1st round pick (#15 overall) + 2nd round pick (#47 overall) to 49ers for 1st round pick (#9/10 overall) + 6th round pick (#170 overall).
- 49ers trade 2nd round pick (#47 overall via Cards) + Arik Armstead to Denver Broncos (#40 overall). (Puts Armstead's value at a 4th round pick which I think is reasonable).
Draft
Round 1 (#15 overall via Cards) - Josh Jackson CB Iowa
1st Round Analysis: Jackson paired with Witherspoon gives us a young talented duo at CB. Jackson has the size and playmaking ability that we need in our secondary. One knock is his lack of experience so it may take him a number of games before he is given the starting nod ahead of Jimmie Ward.
Round 2 (#40 overall via Broncos) - James Daniels C Iowa
Round 2 (#59 overall via Saints) - Dorance Armstrong Jr DE (LEO) Kansas
2nd Round Analysis: We start our draft with back to back picks from Iowa, Daniels becomes the anchor to our revamped interior o-line. Norwell-Daniels-Garnett/Tomlinson is far and away better than Tomlinson-Kilgore-Fusco. As for Armstrong, it may seem a little overkill to sign Ansah and draft a LEO in the 2nd round but our pass rush has been a joke since the days of Aldon and Justin Smith. I'm perfectly ok investing heavily in o-line and pass rushers so that's what I did here.
Round 3 (#70 overall via Bears) - Darius Leonard LB (WILL) South Carolina State
Round 3 (#74 overall) - Equanimeous St. Brown WR Notre Dame
3rd Round Analysis: Leonard has all the tools to become a good starting NFL LB although it may take him some time as his level of competition in college wasn't great, but by 2019 he should be good to go and he will have a good mentor for the position in Malcolm Smith. St.Brown is a popular pick here on the webzone and it's easy to see why, tall receiver which we are sorely lacking and has solid route running skills. With the complexity of Shanahan's offense he may only see red zone action early, but like Kendrick Bourne last year, I think he comes on strong towards the end of the year and really makes his presence felt in 2019. These two picks will play dividends in the future.
Round 4 (#124 overall via Steelers) - Tegray Scales LB (SAM) Indiana
Round 5 (#134 overall via Jets) - Holton Hill CB Texas
4th + 5th Round Analysis: Scales is a guy who has had some impressive production in college (36 TFL with 13 sacks over the past 2 seasons) will contribute on Special Teams right away and could push Eli Harold for playing time as the season progresses. Holton Hill comes with some character concerns but is, in my mind, a 3rd round talent at worst. Has ideal size that we like (6'3 200) , made some big time plays in college and is excellent vs the run. (Hill held Oklahoma State's James Washington to 4 catches for 32 yards)
Round 7 - Best available OT
Round 7 - Best available RB
7th Round Analysis: Hoping to hit a home run on an OT like we did with Trent Brown. Drafting a late round RB that Shanahan covets for competition with Joe Williams.
