It was very tempting to include Kalen Ballage in my mock. He's got a badass name

That's my thought process in my mock, he can start at CB while Josh Jackson learns the nuances of the defense and NFL offenses. Gives us flexibility and depth in our secondary to do different things as the season progresses.

Not sure at this point Ward would get much more than $5 million per year based on his injury. Win win for both sides I think.

I just can't see him taking less then $8.5 million he's due this season, I wouldn't be suprised if he got at least that in FA (2 yrs $10 million) Vic in Chicago could use a CB and he's familiar with him. Jim O'Neill is in Oakland and they could use some CBs

I do think 2 years $10 million is a fair deal for Ward all things considered. Ultimately if it came down to it I'd be open to cutting/trading him and replacing him with an option in Free agency

Oh I think it's a fair deal for us, I could see him getting a 1 yr deal similar to what prince amukamara got this past yr in FA ( 1 yr $7 million) he would take that vs 2 yr $10 million all day. Gets his guaranteed money in one yr and if plays well gets paid the following yr.

That's a good point, and you made a valid argument of familiarity with Jim O'Neill and Vic Fangio.

I would offer Ward the 2 years for $10 million and if he takes it great, if not, then I'd cut him and spend the $8.5 million we'd save on a veteran CB

Works for me

I don't like the idea of giving a division rival their future franchise QB, or even Nelson (their OL is worse than trash).

Fair point and I understand where you're coming from. I think the Cards will be hell bent on getting a FQB so if they don't trade with us they could very well trade with Chicago or Tampa or Oakland.

Either way they will get their QB and if we value 15 and 47 overall higher than 9/10 overall it's worth it in my mind.

Yup. 5.5 mill restructure to save 3 mill and incentives for snaps, games played that can boost it to 6 mill? That's probably my final offer, maybe 6 mill with 500k in incentives. At 6 mill he still can count as a backup CB and safety thatre making 3 mill each.

But IMO 6 mill to Ward if the better deal AND it saves a roster spot on game days. Gonna be interesting
