1. Bradley Chubb DE NCST- our Leo day 1
2. Rashad Penny RD SDST- day 1 starting RB
3a. James Daniels C/G Iowa- Rookie Center I know. Also cheap and young.
3b. Quentin Meeks CB Stanford- not rushed into the field. Ideal size for scheme
4. Wyatt Teller OG Va Tech- Fits our scheme well, could win RG spot. Garnett/Fusco insurance.
5. Holton Hill CB Texas- Loaded CB class comes at right time as we are depleted. Double down for depth. Would be higher pick in most drafts. Also ideal size for scheme.
6. Christian Sam lLB Arizona State- depth and youth at Mike
7a. Jake Wieneke WR South Dakota State- 6'4 and productive. The type of player Brady would make look good. I meant Jimmy.
7b. Isiah Prince OT Ohio St- developmental tackle prospect. May take a year on PS.
Free Agency
Trumaine Johnson CB 5/65 30 guaranteed, out after 3 years 13 cap
Sammy Watkins WR 3/25 8 guaranteed incentives that can push to it to 36 million 8.3 cap, only 1st year guaranteed (I was on the fence on this one. 2 1000 yard seasons. Then 2 so so years. But he changes the way a defense covers everyone else. I give Watkins some credit for the Rams entire offense. I've thought highly of this 24 year old since his true freshman season at Clemson. He's electric. This decision comes down to two things. Weakening a division rival and the structure and guarantees of his contract. Risk vs reward here. Out after 1 year and 8.3 million. Incentives tied to games played, receptions, yards, TD's. Jimmy would have a loaded WR core. Watkins adds size we don't have, RAC ability, and near Goodwin speed)
Justin Pugh Gaurd 4/36 16 guaranteed 9 cap. Solid guard who can play RT. Doesn't break the bank like Norwell.)
Nigel Bradham OLB 4/20 10 guaranteed 5 cap. Starts at Sam. Harold to backup.
Jerry Attaochu DE/OLB 2/10 5 guaranteed 5 cap. 2nd rounder buried behind two pro bowlers. 2 year deal with 1 to prove himself. Young depth and insurance.

49ers trade 9 and next Years 1st and 3rd for 7 and next Years 2nd and 3rd to select Bradley Chubb DE N.C. State. We lose next Years 1st and end up with 2 2nds and a higher 3rd to get our Leo. Expect Tampa to be picking around 10 in rounds and us in the 20's. Hypothetically we end up with pick 40, 55, and 74 and lose 22 and 86. I've went round and round on the best way to acquire a dominant pass rusher. The best ones don't hit the market until near 30. They are overpriced and don't always transition well once you throw big guarantees their way. To me Chubb brings both elite pass rush and elite run defense. Our D Line is finally complete.
Chicago Ridley
Bucs trade down and grab Nelson from ND
Raiders Roquan Smith
OL
Staley, Pugh, Daniels, (Teller/Garnett/Fusco) Brown
A veteran center in FA doesn't happen in this mock. I'm not sure there is a great one available. Several options. In this scenario we retain Kilgore, sign Pugh and draft Daniels/Teller/Prince. Pugh gives us tackle versatility. Retained and attained adequate depth and competition.
DE Thomas/ Carradine/Blair
NT Mitchell/Jones
DT Buckner/Armstead/Day
DE Chubb/Attaochu/Dumerville/Marsh
Cornerbacks
Johnson/Witherspoon/Meeks/Hill/Jackson
Slot
Williams/Ward
FS
Colbert/Ward
SS
Tartt/Reid
Wide Receivers
Garçon/Watkins/Goodwin/Taylor/Robinson/Bourne/Weineke
RB's
Penny/Breida/Williams
This would be competitive to get down to 53. We'd be able to withstand losing anyone but Jimmy and barely miss a beat. Turned our biggest weaknesses into our stronger position groups. Still would have 20+ million in space in 2018, and 40+ in 2019 when Jimmy cap number drops. Also have several players with minimal guarantees in 2019. No mock is perfect but here's another shot at one that has us playoff bound.

How's chubb dropping to us?
Cool with the rest of the draft.
Sounds like NY is gonna try and resign Pugh same with Bradham in philly. I'm gonna pass on Watkins.

Niners trade up from #9? That seems a little far fetched with the rest of the league wanting to move up for QB's and the Niners having drafted DL first three years running.
Would rather trade down at this point and get a top flight CB, another prospect for LEO and Michel rather than Penny.

Top 4 QB's gone and a deep CB class. Chubb, Key and Davenport to me are the 3 Leo's in this draft. I had Landry in that group until recently. But Chubb is the missing piece to this defense in my opinion. We had already signed Johnson in this scenario and will look at CB's later, Meeks ect

Would love the draft to break down like this but some players seem out of order. Most boards and mocks have Chubb in the top six...with the majority being top three. Penny is listed toward middle to late rounds on most. You might want to add another LB now that Foster will be in purgatory for a while.

I'm higher on Penny then most. He's probably gonna go 3rd round. Seems the rise of Michel is lowering Barkley and Guice. Deep class. Chubb and Jones probably go in 2nd round. After those 5, Penny is next for me. We can definitely grab a RB later. Definitely need an LB. probably be putting T Edmunds in my next mock. Can play Sam if Foster sticks, Mike if he's gone or suspended. Don't like Roquan Smith next to Malcolm. But I could survive. Not sure there's a guy I like in the 3-5 round range but there's a few late guys that interest me. Obviously FA will change things.
