Pre-Combine probably taking some liberties on availability Mock

1 - Trade down with Arizona for #15, their 2nd rounder
1 - Harold Landry - SAM/LEO
2a. Ronald Jones - RB
2b. James Daniels - future at C
3a. Quenton Meeks - CB to groom
3b. Lorenzo Carter - SAM/LEO
4. Austin Corbett - G to groom
5. Troy Fumagalli - TE
6. Korey Robertson - WR
7a. Skai Moore - OLB
7b. Jester Weah - WR

I'm expecting us to sign at least one starting caliber CB, possible starter at G in FA.
I think that's a little early for Landry. And Lorenzo Carter doesn't really fit out scheme. He's more of a 3-4 OLB. And a likely a day 3 pick.

Otherwise i think that's a good draft. I like the idea of trading back, if Roquan/Nelson aren't there at our pick.

I'm higher on Landry than most, ditto Carter.

I think Landry is just what we need as far as a pass rusher. That speed and bend around the edge which should play well with Thomas/Buckner pushing the OL back(even if they can't break free from the left side). I think he's flying under the radar due to the ankle injury this past year.

I also think Carter becomes a better pro than college player. He flashes but I like that when he does make plays he makes them with a nice pop. I like to see that out of players when they're making tackles that it's not just getting dragged down by the ball carrier but the impact is clearly visible when they get in on the play.

He definitely needs to get some stuff polished up but I'm very curious to see him at the combine. The size is there and I'd love to get that on the roster and see what the coaches can do with him.

I really love your draft, like you I'm a big Landry fan. (Would take him in a trade down in the 1st round). I know you mentioned positions you'd target in free agency but would love to see the names you had in mind. Really nice job if it fell this way

This would be the group I'd target in FA

Kyle Fuller/Aaron Colvin/Trumaine Johnson
Isaiah Crowell
Sammy Watkins(don't trust this dude at all but maybe worth the shot)
Chris Hubbard
Andrew Norwell/Andy Levitre
Jerry Attaochu
Nigel Bradham/Avery Williamson

Obviously not expecting to sign all of them but would like to get at least one in the group with multiples at one position.

Good mock! I would be happy with this group of FAs as well!

Edit: Not sure about Watkins...

That's arguably the best draft I have seen.

You have 6 potential starters.

Beautiful job Genus.

I really like this mock too

Yeah as you can tell from my comment I don't trust him BUT he now has experience with a similar system, still has great talent and if we protect ourselves on the deal it could be a great signing.

sweet baby Jesus this would be amazing if you throw in a top end CB in FA.

I'm a big fan of Rojo, Daniels,Corbett, Moore (who I don't see dropping that far), and Robertson. Meeks might move up the boards after the combine too.

wouldn't hate this at all.

Like most I'm a little down on Landry and not a huge fan of Carter but I wouldn't hate it either.

Yeah I've admitted to be higher on Landry and Carter than most. And I'm definitely expecting the combine to throw off the stock on some of these guys.

Corbett is one guy who is tough to identify where he goes. I've seen some places don't even include him on the prospect rankings and then the other day I was doing a first-pick mock(draft porn) and saw they had him as a 2nd rounder and they're usually the last ones to update their rankings.

Dont exactly agree with you on Carter. I think he's a SAM and it's a lot of what he did for Georgia. For as freaky as he is coming after the QB, the Bulldogs put him in space quite a bit and i think that's where he'd start. But yes, he could also develop into an a 3-4 OLB.

OP---I really like those first 4 rounds, but i do think Landry and Carter are a little redundant.

The first half of this mock was looking pretty good, but I didn't like the second half as much. Here are some of my thoughts, just to give some feedback and maybe add to the conversation. I'm kind of dumb, and could be totally wrong on everything though.

1 - Trade down with Arizona for #15, their 2nd rounder - Love a trade, unless someone we really love is still on the board.
1 - Harold Landry - SAM/LEO - He could be a great player, and he has a lot of potential. Definitely a position of need. I prefer DB here, depending on FA. Davenport is also interesting if we go EDGE. Would still love this pick though.
2a. Ronald Jones - Love it. Like others have said, he's born to run the outside zone. With some coaching, I think he can be a good receiving back as well.
2b. James Daniels - future at C - Another zone scheme fit. When Daniels gets a little stronger, he will be a beast. Can also play backup guard. Love the pick, hope he makes it to this pick.
3a. Quenton Meeks - CB to groom - Love it. I would love Meeks or Kevin Toliver II here. Great physical traits still available in 3rd round... tall, fast, fluid outside guys like Ahkello. Regardless of FA I like adding corner depth.

3b. Lorenzo Carter - SAM/LEO - I don't get this pick. We don't need another LEO here if we draft Landry. The SAM position isn't as valuable of a position in today's NFL. Saleh seems happy with Eli Harold at SAM, he's only 24 right now and great at setting the edge, and don't forget Pita T. I think Lorenzo Carter could be a good player. If we picked a different position in the first round this would make more sense. TE, WR, OT, NT, ILB would all make a lot more sense, especially If a guy like Anthony Miller falls a bit.
4. Austin Corbett - G to groom - Again after getting an interior lineman in the 2nd round, and free agency, seems a bit overkill.
5. Troy Fumagalli - TE - I'd prefer going tight end earlier and getting Goedert, Gesicki, Hayden Hurst, maybe Andrews . Aside from them, I wouldn't draft a TE. It only makes sense if they are an upgrade to Celek. Honestly, I'd prefer Cole Hikutini over Fumagalli. Plus the finger thing worries me for a tight-end. I mean, at least Shaquem could put up over 20 reps on the bench and he's missing his whole hand. If anyone thinks I'm wrong, I'm open to hearing a case for drafting Fumagalli.
6. Korey Robertson - WR - Not sure about this guy. Reminds me of Kendrick Bourne, and I prefer Bourne.
7a. Skai Moore - OLB - If we draft a linebacker this late, I would want him to be versatile as a backup to MIKE or WILL. I think he's too slow to play WILL, could be decent depth at MIKE. I'd prefer getting an ILB earlier, or getting someone in free agency.
7b. Jester Weah - WR - I like Jester a lot more than Robertson. Has a lot more speed, and quickness. Needs to work on long ball, but his quarterback kind of sucked. I doubt he'll be around this long, but I would definitely be interested if he was still around in the later rounds. Seems a bit raw, but could develop nicely. Nice pick.

Anyways, as always I have too many thoughts. Thanks for your post and putting the time into your mock. It makes the draft a lot more fun when you can learn more about different prospects. I hope I don't sound too critical or anything, and again I could be completely wrong on everything.

It's cool man, we all have our preferences if I took offense to a difference of opinion online i'd have been in prison by now lol.

As the thread said I did this mock before the combine. Honestly I don't know if a bunch of those guys are available where I had them going.

To me the biggest needs this offseason are - pass rush on D, corner help and improving the OL on offense.

Landry to me is exactly what we need in terms of pass rush. Someone who can be Vic Beasley Jr in this D. Jones and Daniels are perfect fits and hit a need.

Meeks is someone I think can grow into a very good corner on the outside and has the physical tools we like from corners and someone who is intelligent and can get better with coaching.

I have admitted to be a bigger Carter fan than most. But why? Because I'm doubling down on positions I think we need the most help in. To me there's never enough pass rush and honestly I think Carter is someone who would need time to fully develop and if he fills out his frame a little more could be deadly. IMO it's worth the gamble.

It may seem like it's overkill but if we can get our pass rush on point and our OL giving Jimmy a ton of time to find open guys while opening holes for our running backs I'm ok with that.

Quality depth is a must and even if we bring in someone in free agency we need to be prepared to bring up young starters behind them in a couple of years or even guys who can come in if someone gets hurt.
