Imagine the mismatches if they put in a goal line defense against that kind of hybrid pass catching talent.

Your discussion made me really rethink Royce. I love the player but I made a change to TE, Mike Gesickigm.

See below.

Mike Gesickigm - 6'5" 247 4.5 40 and former basketbal & volleyball player. High-point king who wins every jump ball and never drops a pass. Excellent route runner who compliments McKinnon, Juice, Kittle, Taylor, Garcon and Goodwin perfectly.

Tackle is the only thing I couldn't address. I think Kyle can find a bigger RB like he found Breida as an UDFA.

49ers haven't visited him yet, which means nothing. I like the skill set, but I looked at Ben JOhnson, one of the TE's that had dinner with the 49ers and he's an all around guy, good blocker, receiver, and route runner. Gesick seems a bit raw and might not be a good blocker. Kyle likes hybrid guys. Tweeners. If you see a Tweener - TE/RB/WR kind of guy, I'm betting he'll go after somebody like that in the lower rounds. Gesick seems too limited. Kyle said he doesn't want somebody that only operates in the red zone, he wants somebody that can operate everywhere and specially in the red zone. We shall see...

Appreciate the feedback. You're right...he's not a blocker. He's a smooth route runner who you can line up in 2-TE sets, outside, in the slot, etc. who'd be a massive mismatch for LB's and DB's. I see him as the Jerik McKinnon of our TE's.

The blocking TE is George Kittle.

OK, this is my final mock draft. I leaned heavily on draft visits as that pool seemed to match our team needs perfectly.

Draft Visits = Team Needs: ER, OL, CB, LB, RB, TE/WR, S and DE (where BPA).

2018 NCommand/ShanaLynch Mock Draft:
(1 | 9) - Harold Landry, ER / 6-3 252
(2 | 43) - Jimmy Garoppolo, FQB / 6-2 225
(2 | 59) - Frank Ragnow, C/G / 6-5 309
(3 | 70) - Mike Gesicki, TE / 6-5 247
(3 | 74) - Tony Brown, CB / 6-0 199
(4 | 128) - Fred Warner, WILL / 6-3 227
(5 | 143) - Chad Thomas, SAM/BE/ER / 6-6 275
(6 | 184) - Deontay Burnett, ZWR / 6-5 186
(7 | 223) - Tre Flowers, S / 6-3 200
(7 | 240) - DeMornay Pierson-El, ST/Returner / 5-9 194

OK...I like this draft except for that Garoppolo guy...LOL! Adding him in makes any draft an immediate win!

Would be happy with this draft but...(there's always a but...please, no derogatory comments needed!).

TE--I believe they may be set at TE with their young guys and Celek. So this may be too high to take a flier on a TE.
WR--will likely take a WR earlier...or my mock is way off, and that's the important thing!
OG/C--Ragnow is ranked much higher than this pick in most things I've seen.

So much for my criticism. I'd blast you for the others if I knew who they were! Take these comments for what they are worth...OK...quit laughing and get back to work! I want more lists and I want them soon!

Thanks NC, as always I appreciate your positive and thoughtful input on this site!

You're the best dtg.

I still think your first instincts on Royce Freeman was originally correct. I think Kyle is looking for RB's that compliment each other and aren't the same type of player. McKinnon, Breida and Joe are similar and I think he'd want a back that's a change up and can eek out the tough two yards on a short yardage play. Royce I think fits the bill as a tough big strong full back/RB tweener and also a back that can catch. Might turn out to be another Tom Rathman!
Here's a fun one based on just what the visits tell us regarding order of importance by position.

Position - # of Players Visited - Projected Round
ER - 7 - 1 or 2
DE/DT - 9 - 1 through 4
RB - 4 - 1, 2 or 3

T - 4 - 1, 5 or 7
S - 4 - 1, 5 or 7
QB - 3 - 5 or 7
TE - 2 - 7

Order of Importance: ER, DE/DT, WR, RB, CB, LB, OL, S, QB & TE

Yeah, that was a fun exercise. I'm sure that's how the team is putting together their big boards...best players based on highest team needs and stacking.

When you look at last year's picks, this pattern holds too with the visits and team needs.

Will it hold again?

OK...now that I've had a chance to look everyone up...

Landry: still getting dizzy watching Landry anywhere from top five to CBS' #53! I believe he should be the niners pick unless they trade back.
Phillips: I'm hoping not! If they don 't have the DL they need and Landry isn't the answer it will mean a major fail by one or more of our current guys. Too high for a flier. Major sadness!
Miller: hoping for a red zone WR and that does not sound like Miller. But...a really good WR is always welcome. I do really like his write up on CBS indicating my kind of receiver--tenacious: Might be the anti-Jenkins pick...much stronger.
Ferocious on every snap. Short with compact build. Plays bigger. Outstanding high-pointer with one of the best "my ball" mentalities in this class. Sells double-moves well. Good downfield speed. Some drop issues. Dynamic after the catch at all levels. High-energy overachiever.
Penny--fits right into Shanahan's liking of varied RBs. 220 pound jump cutter? Ouch! But also says arm tackles bring him down...
Meeks--big CB, learning behind Sherman...good idea!
Armstrong--poor man's Aldon Smith? Long reach.
Quessenberry--don't see this as a good fit for Shanahan. Not very mobile. But may be able to develop, though short arms...
Flowers--big safety but NFL.com lists him as a backup safety at best.
Laletta--Good developmental QB to fill the roster.

My only problem is that many are much higher than CBS (for what that's worth--not much?). Have you compared it with Maddog's board? Curious how he has them ranked.
*Update*

Position - # of Players Visited - Projected Rounds (# in Rd 1 or 2)
ER - 7 - 1 or 2 (7)
DE/DT - 11 - 1-4 (4)
WR - 12 - 1-7 (3)
RB - 4 - 1, 2 or 3 (3)
LB - 11 - 1, 4 or 7 (3)
CB - 13 - 2, 4 or 7 (3)
T - 4 - 1, 5 or 7 (2)
S - 5 - 1, 5 or 7 (2)
G - 3 - 1, 5 or 6 (1)
C - 6 - 1, 5 or 7 (1)
QB - 3 - 5 or 7 (0)
TE - 2 - 7 (0)

NC...are any of the DEs duplicated on the ER list? Or are they larger, less edge rush guys?

Fun to look at the breakdown. Do they visit more guys because more guys are available in a position? Or do they visit because of need? Or both? Since they have their FQB I would think pass rush is the last major step to create a competitive team. All the other positions could be improved but are at least adequate.

Landry at 53? Good Lord that's off...just heard a podcast from a Browns contingent who said they are seriously considering Landry at 4 over Chubb.

Phillips, agreed. Both Thomas and Armstead at now for Big End...perhaps if they get a bigger DE again, that's a sign they don't plan on optioning Armstead's 5th year option and this move is for rotation and depth there plus interior rush.

Also agreed on Miller. He's a Kyle type of receiver and considered by many to be the best in the class but not the big bodied WR we also seem to be looking at.

Agreed on all your other points too.

I've got a more updated detailed list now based on visits and quality with each so I might do another mock following the exact same formula for fun.
