Mock offseason of the moment

I don't do these too often but just posted it on another site so figured may as well throw it up on here.

I realize the FA list is a bit big name heavy but I think we're ready to get serious about this.

FA:
Robbie Gould - tag him if we have to

Earl Thomas - this is huge for me. #1 want in free agency. Hopefully the money and the chance to play with Sherman in a scheme he's familiar with and a chance to stick it to Seattle twice a year trumps his want to play in Dallas. He'll help stabilize our secondary even more and offer another coach on the field.

Anthony Barr - very stable LB for Minnesota, great fit at SAM and someone who can help the pass rush on obvious pass rush situations. (Preston Smith would be my backup if Barr got too pricey)

Jordan Hicks - don't think ILB market has been huge in recent years and Hicks is a pretty good in coverage.

Brandon Graham - gives us flexibility going into the draft and adds a guy who may not have huge sack totals but constantly causing havoc in the backfield.

Ramon Foster/Roger Saffold - this would be icing on an already pretty expensive cake. I think more likely is we try to re-sign Person and draft his eventual replacement.

Draft: Tried to look at some big boards out there to keep myself honest but I do think some of these players go higher than they're shown as available currently - specifically round 2 though 6 picks

1. Nick Bosa - DE/LEO
2. TJ Hockenson - TE
3. Garrett Bradbury - C/G
4. Andy Isabella - WR
6. Lonnie Johnson - CB
7. Sutton Smith - LB/LEO in spots/Special Teams

I like the FA picks it would be fantastic to get all those players or even a few of them.
I liked your draft as well. I did not recognize Garrett Bradbury or Lonnie Johnson so I did not know what positions they played. I think it would be interesting to get Sutton Smith in the 7th round but he seems to be a Bellichek type of player and would be drafted higher than the 7th and by New England. Seems small but high football IQ.

Sorry should've included positions.

Bradbury is the Center out of NC State. I think he's a perfect fit for this type of offense and could be a backup early on at either C or G and win the starting job at whichever position the starter didn't perform well in.

Lonnie is a corner out of Kentucky.
The signed FA list is not realistic nor is it smart. Very few teams if any win Superbowls in the FA market. In fact I would guess that most teams that over pursue the FA market never reach expectations nor do the FA players they sign. I would suspect one maybe two, but probably not likely, players off that list. I would also suggest the way you can be successful is find lower tier FA that are young that have been improperly used by their current club either positional or because they are currently on a deep roster. Although Earl Thomas has had a great career, after his latest injury, I would be very concern, especially with his age.

In the end FA players are always overpaid and usually under achieve mostly because they are beyond their peak years, have past injuries, getting old, less hunger to be sucessful etc.
Love your 1st round pick.

FA: We don't need a ILB, we already have Warner(MIKE)

DRAFT:
Why are we picking a TE that high after Kittle broke the NFL record? I don't think that would sit well with our best offensive weapon. Hockenson is a pretty good TE but we have bigger needs that we can use that pick for like iOL/WR/CB. I also believe there's not much drop off from the 1st tier TEs to the 2nd tiers in this class. We can pick up a TE like Nauta, Sternberger, Conrad or Swinney in the later rounds. They found Kittle in the 5th, I'm sure they can find another one in the later rounds.

Bradbury would be excellent in the run game but his Pass protection and play strength is his weakness and we need to protect and keep JG upright.

I'll be super happy with Bosa, E.Thomas, and Barr in the offseason but we'll see.

Ok, so no free agency for us?

We have the cap space to sign all those guys. Whether we do or not remains to be seen. Do I think it's likely we sign all those guys? No. can we? Yes.

Most of those players are either proven talents still in their prime or up and coming guys in the verge of breaking out. This isn't Albert Haynesworth.

This team is ready to win and we need key vets who can help the young roster put things together. Sherman was a bigger question mark and turned into our best FA signing.

I'd play Hicks at Will.

And yes if Hackenson is there I hope we pull the trigger. I don't think Kittle would be upset considering he played with TJ and overall the guy is super easy going. He wants to win. We'd instantly have the best TE duo in the game and make game planning a nightmare for defenses across the league. Hack is another Iowa beast. Not sure what they're feeding those guys down there.

Bradbury is still developing. Former TE iirc like Staley was. He doesn't have to rush out there but I think he can definitely mature into a great overall interior player.

This team is not ready to win. We are not a few tweaks away from the Superbowl. I did not suggest we should not pursue any FA players. Nobody wins the SB in FA so why would we invest in 5 high profile FA that you agree will be over paided and under achieve. This team will win through the draft and SMART FA signings.Signing every FA with a pulse is not a strategy. Not only does it limit you down the road financially it also limits young players from developing; you know......the core players that will get this team to the SB.

Agreed. Not sure why we would invest in TE in the 2nd round......I am not so sure Hockenson makes it out of the 1st round. Seems to me CB,S,LB, OG and WR require more attention if we get a edge rusher with our first.

I wouldn't draft based on need outside of the first round where I think need and BPA will sync up in a pass rusher.

You said it yourself Hockenson isn't likely to get out of the first round so the board I was following still had him available at our 2nd round pick. I explained my thought process behind it. A team with a 2 back, 2 TE personnel grouping this strong can do some terrific things with Kyle Shanahan as a playcaller and Jimmy at QB. How do you think the Pats would do with 2 Gronks?

As for your other post agree to disagree. We may not be SB favorites but we can certainly make the playoffs and that's all about getting hot at the right time.
Do we even have a 7th round pick this year?

I'm against the grain. Here. I believe bosa is at his max. I also believe he will be an injury prone player. People deny his second injury, but it's been stated it was more serious than believed. 2 big injuries in less than 3 years is a red flag. I believe Allen can be better than bosa big brother. And little bosa is not as good as his brother

Yes...at the time that it happened. Which is why he made the smart choice to sit out the rest of the year so he could rehab the injury and then work on his combine training to make sure he's in football shape. I'm confident he'll have no red flags at the combine.
I'd like to swap picks with the giants for Odell because I am very weary of Bosa. Between his brother's injuries and his injuries I wouldn't risk it. We have seen this movie before! If we draft him I hope I am wrong but I'd prefer Allen or trade back and get Ferrell! I believe after the combine the hype train for QB's may even allow us to trade back with the Giants and still get 1 of the top 3 pass rushers! We also must be aggressive in FA. We need a DE and S in FA and I'd love Mosely and Warner to hold it down in the middle.
Trade with Giants for Odell
6- Ferrell DE or possibly even Allen still depending on the run on QBs
36- Mack Wilson ILB or Deonte Thompson S depending on FA pickups and best available
67- Rock Sin-Ya CB
waiting until after the combine to pick past the 3rd round
