Funky Chicken down to the wire 2019 Mock Draft

Somehow it's draft day already, and I never got my annual mock in. So here we go!

Straight up, no trades. Some optimism involved... But after tracking this stuff for the last 15 years I have seen that sometimes things really do break the way you want. Of course, whenever my dream scenario of favorite players falling to our picks happens, the 9ers never take them... But here's what I would love to see happen, within the bounds of what I think is possible.

Round 1: Nick Bosa DE Ohio State
Seems pretty obvious to me.. Long regarded as the top player, at our greatest position of need, which happens to be one of the most premiere positions in the game, and he just falls in our lap.

Round 2: Hakeem Butler WR Iowa St
Our second greatest need, WR, just happens to coincide with where a big group of the best of position are expected to go. Of that group, Hakeem Butler is my favorite. Can play inside and out, with physicality or speed, and is dangerous with or without the ball. Could easily end up as our Go To WR and be a great combo with Pettis.

Round 3: Darnell Savage FS Maryland
A couple months ago this guy was projected in the late rounds. Now I'm seeing him sneak into the first in a few mocks. My take is that nobody knows and he will get drafted and could easily still be there at the top of the third. And the single high Free Safety is definitely a position where we have a need. My favorite 9er players have always been safeties, from Ronnie Lott to my namesake Merton Hanks. And when we have a hard hitting ball hawk back there, it makes the D both dangerous and intimidating.

Round 4: Lonnie Johnson CB Kentucky
At this point in the draft, CBs are a bit of a crap shoot. And opinions on Lonnie Johnson are all over the place. But I think he has the size, athleticism and experience to turn into an NFL starter.

Round 6: Bobby Okereke LB Stanford
I've seen him all over draft boards. But I think he could be there a bit later. My logic is that we need a LB with the size to play the strong side when we actually want a LB in that spot. Okereke has the size and speed to play a more traditional LB role or rush the passer.

Round 6: Beau Benzshawel G Wisconsin
For some reason I'm always drawn to O Linemen form big midwest schools. In the 6th round we're looking for a swing man to back up both OG and OT. Beau plays guard and has good bend, but is tall and could probably fill in at OT if needed.

Heh.... You know I wondered about which of those two would go first, Butler or Savage. I went this way because I feel like if I'm the GM I'd rather lock down the WR I want first. And then hope the FS I want is there in the 3rd.

But in the actual draft I could easily see them going the other way.
Well.... I guess hoping Savage would make it to the third was way off.....

Still hoping one of the good safeties falls.
